Ok, so i hooked up my air horn relay to Aux#1. It worked* for about 3 days and I went to blow my horn today and nothing. I have no power at all coming from the output wire for Aux#1 but all other 3 switches work. I have already tried a new relay (fuse) in the seperate fuse box in the glove box, and regrounding. What could be wrong. Also the light still works on ALL switches.
Is there power at the fuse? Both sides? Umm...Aux 1 is the 30 amp circuit, right? You're gonna have to check back before the fuse/relay. If you haven't bought it yet, you need the cd rom servive manual with the wiring diagrams. I don't have access to mine tonight.
My truck didnt come with these switches but I added them. The kit came with the switches and the wiring harness and its all factory parts. My point is there isnt much to the switches other than the relay behind the glove box you mentioned and then the whole harness plugs in to the back of the fuse panel. Check out powerstroke.com where I bought the kit and they have very detailed installation instructions with lots of pictures. Figured this might help you trace the wires.
I did buy these too after the fact i think it was off ebay but are OEM. I do have the wiring diagram but see nothing else that could go wrong. Today I'll have to see if I have power at the relay in the Aux fuse box and go from there.
The relays in the aux box are just that, relays, not fuses. The fuses are in the main fuse box. It should be a 30A J case (square plastic with a clear window) style fuse.
Thanks rwilimo, I actually just came on to say that I found that. Did not know if there was anything in the fusebox from them, figured there would be one big fuse for all of them since they all plug into one slot. Also my compressor/pressure switch relay went bad.
So on the note of the 30A fuse going bad, do you think that a Viair 480C (Amp Draw: 19 Amps), Viair Pressure Switch, and solenoid, is to much for the 30A Aux#1 to handle. I am going to move the solenoid to just a all time on so that i can blow the horn at any time, truck on or off, but that cant take that much power.
I thought from reading your initial post that you checked the fuses in the fuse panel already. But if not, definitely look there since there is a seperate fuse for each switch. Seems like if the fuse was blown the switch wouldnt even light up but then again it wouldnt be the strangest thing I ever saw. Good luck. You may want to call or e-mail powerstokeshop.com to see if they have an answer. Their customer service was top notch when I dealt with them and they really know their products. For future reference, they were also cheaper than I could find it on Ebay at the time.
I did a quick internet search for the compressor and came up with this: "Viair 480C Chrome Compressor, 100% Duty Cycle @ 100psi or 50% Duty Cycle @ 200psi 30Amps Max" If this is correct it would explain your fuse failure. If it was me I would would run a dedicated fused battery line to the solenoid and trigger the solenoid with upfitter switch. Let me know if you need any more info.
That would explain it. I guess what I am going to do is hook up the relay and horn button/solenoid to the fused line right from the battery. Then to make it where I can control when i want the tank to fill up just hook up the positive battery lead of the pressure switch to the upfitter and that will do it.
