This might be interesting for you...

55 F250
engine - was a 239 but that was dead, then a possible 360 or 390 but that fell through, then a 292 but that died 2 months after install... now what? can you see the future? I wish I could

Tranny - stock 4spd
axles - stock
color - faded as hell blue

well thats about it
Cant wait to see the results at the end!

Great thread Vern, I can't believe the response this thread is getting. I have not been a Ford boy forever so I may need a little assist classifying these engines into proper family. If they are listed by CID. it's because I want to make sure they end up in the proper engine family. Let me know if anything should be combined. Thanks John, this is quite the project you assigned me.

25 guys have checked in with 26 trucks ('60 and before only counted, I am not counting latemodels)

Engines SB Ford- 8
351C- 2
460- 2
Flatheads 2
390 4
Y Block 5
SB Chevy 2
223 I-6 1

Front Suspension

Straight Axle 11
MII 3
I Beam 1
Volare 6
Heidts Non MII 1
LTD Style 2
Camaro 1

Rear Differential

Ford 24
Mopar 1

Incomplete data for Artman's front suspension, Huntsman's Differential
Also need an assist with the big blocks, Clevelands and FEs to make sure I get them right. Not going to break down the different Ford rear ends. Anyone else wishes to, knock yourself out and I'll update the data. Note, I used your best assumption if you were a bit undecided on anything.

[updated:LAST EDITED ON 06-Dec-02 AT 09:39 PM (EST)]This thread took a different twist after I opened it last. Since we're over 35 posts, who loaned their toes and fingers to 'fenders?

My '48 F1 is ALMOST stock:

255 cid Mercury flathead V8
Original 3 spd HD synchro tranny
Ford 9" third member with 3.50 gears from a 65 pickup

Front end is stock straight axle
Rear and front ride on original leaf springs - 8 up front and 10 in back

Only thing non-Ford on my truck is the paint. The 'dark amethyst pearl' is a 1999 Honda Accord color if I remember right........sorry Henry!

Rearend tally as near as I can decipher:

Ford 9" - 15
Ford 8.8" - 2
Stock Dana - 7
Mopars - 2 (includes Vern's leaning)

Thanks Tim,

I'll update later this weekend. Just thought I better get it before it turned into work. Thanks for the audit, I missed the second Mopar rear end. (I had Vern's counted)

Anybody besides me surprised so far? Only two flatties and four MIIs (or similar) is not what I expected. Other than the lack of flatties, the engine survey is about what I expected from the FTE crowd. There are some more Bowtie engines and GM clips around here too no doubt than may show up later.

Regarding the Ford engine families. Is the following correct? 351 Cleveland belongs with the "modified family", 390 is in the FE family and the 460 and 429 big blocks are a distinctive family also?

Fenders the differential in my 55 is from an 89 f-100 not sure if it is still classed as a 9" but still a Ford.

Hey 'fenders the 429 and 460 are part of the "385" series motors.(correct me if I'm wrong). This seems to be a very popular thread. The amount of Y-blocks and straight axel front ends are surprising but I'm sure this is only temporary for this thing keeps growing.

Tom

Thanks for the update. Your 89 F150 would have an 8.8 diff. 86 was the end of the nine inch rear to my knowledge.
