I was reading on another 4x4 forum (aaargghhhh) where they were discussing hammerite rattle can paint. I saw pro chime in there so he has used it apparently. So I guess my question is directed towards him but if anyone else has heard/used it before please chime in. Where can you buy this stuff off the shelf? What was your experience with it? Looks to be textured type paint. Is the rustoleum hammered as good?
well you wont be hearing from Pro here, Ken has banned him for life! you'll have to go to pirate and ask him there.
i have used the hammered paint and i really like it. it gives a pretty sweet textured look and has a lil bit of a rough surface. you should be able to buy it anywhere paint is sold, wally world, k-mart, any autozones/advanced auto's. only time i really used it was on old furntiture or projects i helped mom with.
The ex- president of my club used it on the roll cage of his jeep. Really nice looking stuff. I bought two cans of the dark grey at Tractor Supply Co.. I'm gonna use em to paint my axles i think,
I painted a couple of things with it. I used rustoleum brand spray, but the hardware store has it in cans too. Heres a couple pics.https://www.ford-trucks.com/user_gal...105670&width=2 https://www.ford-trucks.com/user_gal...=75687&width=2
The inner fenders are silver and the wheels are black, although it looks more like charcoal. One thing I did was rustoleum clear on the rims. That was a bad idea. It did weird things to the hammered like spider bunch up the paint and made it brittle and it chips off real easy. On the other hand, the iner fenders are subjected to all kinds of stuff flinging off the tires and they are hardly chipped. DON'T CLEARCOAT!!!
wow... what a quinkie dink.... I was going to start a post recommending this stuff. I just finished coat 3 on my bumpers with rustoleum hammered black... looks awesome! I like it because I can get it in rattle cans or quarts from lowes. It goes on easy and is almost more like a epoxy than a paint. I noticed that I dripped some on the cheap plastic blue tarp I was using as a drop and the paint like melted/molded into the material… crazy. The black dries to almost a dark two tone charcoal... I really like it. Quite glossy as well... I haven't chipped it yet, (soon) but it feels very durable. Oh… fyi… you need Xylol thinner to clean up.
Awesome, sounds like I might use it. Pro got banned???!!!! I think I will go with the black, still one question. Is there much difference between the hammerite and rustoleum hammered? As in quality and price?
Dunno about hammerite.. but the rusto black hammered is like $11 a quart and around $5 a rattle can... (the quart is the much better deal) and since the finish dries like it does you can't see brush marks at all.
