regulated return fuel system

I would like to improve my fuel system. I would like to do this once and have it be ready for any mods i do down the road. As money allows i want to keep adding hp (Injectors, dual hpop, turbo, etc. after the rods and studs of coarse). What is a good fuel system that will be able to handle mods in the future? I've been trying to do some reading on the different set ups but wondering if there is a favorite set up among everyone? Is there a system that can be peiced together that will work good and be cheaper? Any advice about fuel system improvements will be appreciated since i'm not to familiar with my options for improving the fuel system to handle whatever mods you can throw at it. My main concern is that i don't want to do this and then add a bunch of mods and find out i need to spend more money redoing the fuel system again. Thanks again

DI, ITP, Dieselsite, all those guys have regulated return systems ready to go. You won't save much trying to build your own. All of their kits work great, so talk to Bob, David, and Dennis and figure out which one you want. I've chatted with all three of these guys and they offer great advice and customer service.

Do i only need the regulated return kits for around 400 bucks or should i look into getting a new fuel pump that performs better? I don't know much at all about these fuel systems so bare with me please i'm trying to learn. I just want a system that will work for whatever mods you throw at it and not have to keep upgrading. Thanks guys

Stock fuel pump should be fine for most applications.

i did my whole fuel system at once, excluding a sump in the tank or an aftermarket pump. i had already done the in-tank and pre-pump mods. ran new 3/8" line out of the tank into a Carter 4070 Lift Pump, into a Dahl 150 filter, into the stock pump. i got rid of my fuel filter on the engine because i had a Dahl, so i ran the line into a Y-block and into a DieselInnovations reg. return kit. now all i will have to do is maybe run a larger line to the pump if i starve for fuel if i get a larger pump for injectors in the future.

Thanks Kris. I wish i knew half the things you know. Do you have pics of all these things somewhere, i know you have alot of pics on webshots or something? Where did you get your dahl and lift pump. I'm learning about these systems so any links or if you could a list of parts i need and where i can get them and what they do if you have the time would be really helpful. Thanks so much for your time

I fabbed my whole system myself. Not that hard. Now my setup uses the stock bowl and return regulator and line. I did rear feed the rails of the block from the filter ALA a setup quite similar to KWIKKs. The front ports come to a Tee fitting that I simply put a valve on (dead end) in order to bleed air out from time to time if I need to. The thought was I could then get a regulator and return it from there but I didn't want to eliminate the stock reg/return as that gets the air (if any) out of the bowl and has been regulating the press just fine.

I have gone no further on this mod for now because it is working great and there seems to be no reason to now. I may slap a gauge on the dead end Tee fitting just to view the pressure. It can grow if I want it to at any time. The best part is I have less than $75 in the whole system in the engine compartment.

A final thought, fluid dynamics dictates what pressure will do as it flows through a tube/hose. A fire hose will not help if it has to go through that small fitting at the ports on the rear of the head. From there, the galleys are a larger ID than the fitting. Something to consider when looking at delivery volume and hose size. The pump will only pump so much PSI against so much pressure and there will be no further gains except wear on a pump. JMO.

i do believe i got the carter pump from Jegs. www.jegs.com (carter 4070)

the Dahl, i got a 150 instead of a 100 model, because it flows more, and i have plans for some massive flow in the future. i got it from www.Dieselsite.com

for the hose, it is 30R9, which is rated to 200psi i believe. stuff's expensive at around $5 a foot, and i used about 15 or more feet of it. but, it's the best that you can get in a rubber hose.

the Y-block i got from www.summitracing.com (i believe that's the addy, it's just Summit Racing.

for the engine part of the kit, www.dieselinnvations.com, they have larger hose and fittings, that are #6 (3/8") instead of other brands that use # (1/4) hose on the cylinder heads. plus, it's blue and that's cool

here's the almost-famous gallery. http://rides.webshots.com/album/552044819GkrDrM
