Door lock problem

You need a locksmith to open this one up. The side door lock cylinders are built, then the stainless outer cap is swedged in place to lock the pieces together. The driver's door typically accumulates the most wear of course. You need to remove the lock cylinder and take it to a 'smith, along with a good copy of your key. They will take it apart, replace the worn tumblers and remove the broken section of key, or just build you a new one. They are very inexpensive. You or I could take it apart, but it takes a special tool to swedge a new cap in place. To remove the lock cylinder, open the door, remove the steel tab inside the door jamb where the lock cylinder is, and wiggle the cylinder out. The remote rod will probably fall back into the door, but it's not hard to fish it back into place with a piece of mechanics wire. Better yet, secure it before you remove the cylinder. Replacement is just as easy.

Not a locksmith but owned a hardware store +20 years & did a lot of work on locks. Automobile keys usually break off flush or relatively flush with the outer cap. Sometimes you can lube the lock really well with spray lube and slip out the broken key using two picks (slim pointed awls or similar) one on top one on bottom and working together sometimes (never kept stats but it seems about 50-50) it'll come out. Have patience.
