the truck in ? iks a 51 f1ive checked the posts and cant find enough info to help myself......
bench or buckets with console? all opinions welcomed!
mid chevy bench? is it a full size or mid size truck?
if buckets- wich fit? i know any will but what fits good? i dont want to fabricate tall ugly brackets to get them high enough. are some tall in the seat are stock or will all need tall brackets to get them to be the right height?
im looking to get a seat soon. i need to know what to ask the junk man for. thanks for the patients.....................
Take the tape measure with you to be sure. This is just a guess but I determined a mid size truck bench was almost wide enough for my 53 F100. My interior is supposedly a bit wider than your 51. I think you got a shot. I like bench seats in old trucks. Just my opinion though.
... go for the bench. Full size won't fit for sure. I went thru all that a few month ago. Full size Ford barely fits F100 53 and up, but for sure not 52 and down F1s. You need one from a mini truck like a Ranger.
Agree with 'fenders. Go measure, but measure at various places. Remember that when you tilt the bench forward it even gets narrower between the doors the more forward you go. Take all these dimensions before you go to a junk yard.
good thoughts fellas, i,m leanin towards the bench but arnt sure. im not sure of the shifter, not a three on the tree anymore, i think i lokar shifter (long) and a bench. ill have my garage soon so im trying to srock pile parts now..... thanks
i agree with Vern, a bench seat looks better than bucket...keeps the ol boys looking vintage and a real truck...remember these are not sport vehicles....C-R-U-I-S-E-R-S baby yeah!!!!!!
I'm using a bench seat with a split from an old ranger truck...early 80s
I have a 3-pc console bench seat in my '59 with a B&M floor mounted shifter. If I had the $$$ to do it again, I'd go with a straight, good old fashioned bench seat(maybe a 60:40 split so the passenger doesn't have to get out so I can move the seat forward to get stuff out behind the seat) and a long-neck Lokar shifter (so I don't have to reach so far down to shift gears) That's if I still couldn't have a automatic shift on the column, which would be my ideal setup.
Measure the narrowest part of the interior(usually the curve behind the drivers left hip and the passengers right hip; measure the height (floor pan to ceiling), the width of the door (so you can get the new seat in!); and the depth of the seat(ie, how deep the seat is- the part where you plant your butt on!) .
I found that I am not able to "recline" my seats much at all before I hit the back wall so you should factor in moving the seat forward and back AS WELL AS reclining the seat backward. Hope you can learn from my mistakes!....
