jake00,

Panhard bar, is not installed on the rear of a SD. You may be confusing a Panhard bar for a sway bar. Two completely different animals for different outcomes when tuning a suspension.

Hope this helps

Regarding the wandering, do check the nuts and torque of the other 3 wheels. Maybe you did this already. I did recently read about a motorhome upfitter mistake. They didnt tighten the bolts on a hitch they installed and it came off with a truck in tow going down the freeway at 60mph. The poor guy looked out his drivers window only to see his own pickup truck pass him which then took out 3 vehicles-multiple injuries. Very bad. What a day that must have been.
One other thing about the wandering. You said the RV put on a lot of weight. Is this weight concentrated in the rear? That could give you front end instability. Make sure you havent exceeded the gross cargo carrying capacity of the chassis which will do the same thing. An important thing to remember about motorhomes is the tire inflation. It should be set to the gross weight of the vehicle and not to the maximum inflation listed on the tire. If you go to Michelins web site they have a motorhome section with a weight versus inflation graph you can use. Take the time to have each axle weighed and go from there and also visit RV dt net for answers to your RV questions.

Just to put something eles out there to think about .
depending on whether the full floating rear axle is a Ford or a Dana axle.
The possible blame could be with Dana not Ford to some extent.
Ford just buys the rears already assembled from Dana.
Your MH dealer should have done a predelivery on this vehicle ,its there reponsibility also.

As I always say Removed by Admin: inappropriate comment for a family site l There could be a bunch of people to blame. But I doubt FMC is going to do more then apoligize. It sounds like the issue is of human error and not a design flaw.

I am happy to report that I finally received a call from the manager of the E frames. It took 48 hours, but she reassured me that this issue would go to the factory floor in Ohio and that my issue is isolated as far as she knows. However I suggest that anyone with a recent, low mileage E frame, have their bearings checked. Better safe than sorry.

I'm still waiting on parts from Detroit. My trip and income are still lost, but at least this issue has been heard at Ford. I'm disappointed it took me most of Monday and calling in some contacts to get a dialogue going.

Can anyone imagine what would happen if my dually wheels came off at highway speed? Lets see...the angulary momentum would carry them into something which would be destroyed. Another vehicle? I don't even want to think about that motorhome sliding on the rear axle. If I didn't start rolling over and over down the highway, which is the best outcome, the 55 gallons of gas and all that propane are sitting right ready to erode away and ignite.

I know I annoyed some loyal Ford enthusiasts. Tough luck...you are blind to the issue To those who commissrated and offered suggestions as to what and how to resolve this issue, I thank you.

Glad to hear they are getting your truck fixed. Sorry to see it appears you approach life with the glass is always half empty and the worst will happen.

Mark,

I'm glad to hear that you are making some progress into the issue you are dealing with. I've been following this post since it was started... and to be honest, I was really miffed at first. It seemed like you were solely focused on what trouble this inconvenience has caused you... So consider this.. Ford manufactures millions of vehicles... let's say 5,000,000 a year.. we all know the law of quality control, it is absolutely impossible to produce 100% perfect vehicles. So we'll say QC allows for a 0.0001% tolerance.. that's 500 vehicles that will have some sort of imperfection off the line. This is inevitable. So we as consumers have to take the risk passed on to us. If you do not want the (miniscule) risk involved... do not buy the DA** vehicle. So what happens when you get one of the vehicles with a problem?? Exactly what you've done... Persist.. it may take some time to get things rolling, but you will be taken care of.. especially if you're under warranty. Do you have any idea how many bogus and/or fradulent claims Ford gets a day??? It takes some time to sort the truth from the fiction. So stick with what you're doing... and stop looking at what COULD have happened... I mean, I could have stepped outside on my front porch to go to work this morning and a small plane COULD have crashed into my house and that'd be the end of my story. But it didn't. Just as nothing has happened to you... You should be looking at the "glass is half-full" approach and saying.. well hey, the thing is.. I'm STILL alive, and so is my family. Lost wages can always be made-up and vacations can be re-scheduled. In my 22 years on this earth I've experienced a lot I didn't want to.. I've watched two family members (immediate) overcome cancer, and one (grandmother) succumb to it. I've watched 2 of my grandparents fade into the empty shell of a human because of Alzheimer's disease... that hurt more than anything I've been through. My brother and my dad have diabetes. I know what it's like to cherish what you have with who you have... so, Mark.. my advice to you would be to thank God that you are still here, and that nothing did happen... and continue with your attempts to resolve this situation. This will get taken care of, I believe that. But do not bother yourself with worrying about what Could have been. Lingering in the past will do nothing for you... please do not take offense to my post.. I do not mean this to argue or start anything, and I don't think I know everything. I've still got a lot to learn... and I understand you being frustrated at first.. but if you calm down, organize yourself, and move forward you will get a lot more accomplished.

I can. I've seen it. What happened was the wheels and axle shaft came out of the axle tube about a foot and everything ground to a halt. Once the axle shaft disengages from the differential you can't apply power to the ground anymore unless you have a tru-trac or other locking diff (not limited-slip). The axle bends a bit, and the splines dig into the axle tube. Expensive to fix, but in this case anyway it wasn't life-threatening. Before you ask, I don't have pictures. This was a 1-ton chevy in the late 70's and it was an old truck then.

Ford negligence at factory. Rear driver side wheel nut backed off. Only symptom was slight steering wander. I looked under chassis to see about where I could put a Panhard rod and found leaking axle seal.

"quote"

first tings first... lets get your ducks in a row...... yup..the ford chassis is a ford chassis..they are liable.. and warranty-able..

112233,

You are mostly right, and I agree with your post in that Mark should get Ford to fix their mistake... that is part of the business, and Ford will take care of it. Now if they do not, I would suggest legal action. But don't sign onto a stupid class-action suit if nothing happened to you... This is the downfall of the American society... Everyone seems to think they DESERVE reperations for some hardships they face in life. Well I've got news for you, this life is tough.. and if you can't handle it, and you wanna sue everything that breathes... you can go to hell for all I care. I am so sick and tired of people suing for millions of dollars because they fell off of a ladder, or burned themselves on a hot cup of coffee. I hate people like that. And do not write me off as judgemental... I love my country, and I hate people who screw it up. 112233, that would be like me borrowing your lawn-mower... accidentally hacking my foot off, and then suing you because it was your lawn-mower. I think I hate you, honestly. This post is making my blood boil!!! The sad thing is that my oldest brother is a very successful lawyer... I think I hate him too. Too many BS claims and lawsuits in the greatest nation on earth.
