If you wedge something [wood so not damage anything] between the fan belt pulleys...this always worked for me, lol.

keep the belts on and like bc stated, a piece of wood between the belt and pulley will keep things from turning and LEFT hand thread is correctamundo ... large wrench on fan clutch nut and snap it toward drivers front wheel

heat it up a bit and use a big hammer and since the water pump is being replaced it would be best to replace the cluch

Two weeks ago I had to replace my water pump too. I heated mine up with a propane torch. Rember lock tight when you put it back on. I read on here some people put it on with out it and it came off & flew in to the raditor. I didn't have any special tools. I used a skinny pipe wrench & a box end wrench on one of the bolts on the clutch. I also just took the front end off(grill etc etc) & that made it alot easier. That is what worked for me.

Friend of mine had told me to use an air hammer and chisel to get it moving, but if it was lock tited, it wil need to be heated most likely to release it.
BTW, welcome to FTE! If you have some time, scroll down the page and give us a visit in the Iowa chapter...

Jack-Iowa,
Welcome to FTE and the IDI diesel forum.

Do pay close attention to which holes which bolts come out of. They need to go back in the same place to keep from getting a longer bolt against the timing gears.
Also the bolts that end in the center of the timing gear cover need thread sealant on them.
