That's right Dave. The blower was just to purge the cylinders, not to build boost. The newer 92 series had bypass blowers that let the turbo blow around the blower.
They didn't even throw a Krylon overhaul on the engine first! Sheese!
That is what I drove 8V92 TTA in an 1980 model Freightliner, 475 horse at 1900 RPM. Mine turned 3200 RPM after some tweaks. Blower and twin turbo's, blow 5 feet of fire out the exhaust stacks at 6,000 feet elevation or above. That was the only Detroit that was fun to drive, the rest you had to slam the door on your finger and get mad to get them to go anywhere.
That is the truck I got the speeding ticket in out in Oregon, cop chased me for 8 miles up the mountain to catch me. 92 in a 55 up the mountain, cop said I bet you wish you had something in the trailer to hold it down. I opened the trailer door and said I do, it was loaded with potatos all the way to the roof of the 45 foot reefer trailer. His jaw just dropped, I "almost" got out of that ticket.
Truck looks wicked with it I'll give ya that! How much power do you think it has with that on? Anyone wanta ask the seller and find out? I also wonder if you reworked that setup, would it then be beneficial on top of that diesel? I think that blower + fuel increase + headers would be a pretty mean setup..I bet that would give her some power. But If anything, it would have some growl in her!
So for 1700 dollars you could buy two of them (7.5" diameter --TS04 W/TH08 impeller that will support a 3.5 liter engine) and then make all the mounts, piping and such.
Probably get much better results with much less headaches as well as cheaper if you call ATS and order a turbo system.
There is a guy with a Camaro, no hood, big blower, roll cage, tubbed rear with huge rear tires, narrowed rear axle, wheelie bars, loud mufflers and big pipes and all the looks cool stuff on it running around town here.
It runs so bad I can shut it down with my truck, but it looks cool and he has a ton of dollars in it.
He has it so detuned to run on pump gas I think a 55 VW would smoke it.
I saw him try to get on it a couple weeks ago, blew almost as much black smoke as my truck does and it almost stalled.
Very good point. In fact I know a T-top Camaro with a similar setup running around here. The guy has a 350 with a blower on it. Looks cool...Funniest thing is to see a V6 Pinto with a 289 running all motor smoke it on the dragstrip.
