Thanks Alan, I will try that next time but will not upload it here now as the only diff was the #15 which I think was for the heated seats. Not worth it for that minor diff.
My 2000 F-250 7.3L has recently on two occasions not wanted to start. Just turn and turn. Then suddenly it would spion up quicker and start and run just fine. Well today it is doing it again simply out of the blue. Crank & crank without acting like it wants to fire up. Tomorrow I'm starting with changing the fuel filter up top, but if that doens't work, what next?
Found my problem...The TS Power Chip was the culprit. I removed the Chip from the Power Control Modual (PCM) and the truck started. Put the chip back on and it wouldn't start again. It acts like one of the wires to the chip is not working. Anyway, I'm glad the truck is now running and thanks for the input guys. I tried everything.
First I changed the water separator filter up top, then hooked up a set of jumper cables on one battery, and a portable jumper box on the other battery and it fired right up no problem. I of course let it run for almost 45 minutes before shutting it down. Today i will try to start it, and if it does, then i have to "assume" either a clogged filter was causing a hard start helping to strain my batteries on back to back short trips not long enough to re-charge them, OR in fact my batteries are approaching their final days?????

That is bad news. Good news is you found it. I always recommend pulling the chip in any chipped truck when problems arise. No need to throw money at it until you know that was not the culprit.
Reckless, have both batteries tested. Mine would start every time but was getting slower and slower as it got colder. So I had both tested and both failed even though they would start the truck. Not bad for seven year old batteries though.
Let's "assume" they're dying. Can I get these batteries at Advance Auto or Pep Boys, or do I have to go pay a fortune at the dealership? Did you test yours at one of the auto parts stores?
Kewl, thanks! I haven't really looked at them closely since purchasing the truck so I wasn't sure if they were some sort of "special" battery or not. I just know they look huge.
Rat - glad you found the problem. If anyone else is having a similar issue and it's not the chip, check the IDM. I had to replace mine a few months ago. It would turn over fine but it wouldn't start.
Just went out and tried to start, but no joy. Now that I'm paying attention a little more, it does seem like it's not "quite" spinning up as quick.
So where and where is this IDM?
Dont jump to the High dollar parts off the bat lots of little stuff to check first.
Start a new thread so everything gets ruled out.
1 check oil level and last change
2 check voltage at batter before cranking
3 check voltage at battery during cranking
4 check voltage at battery while at idle (If Possible)
Doesn't cost a dime to have them load tested. May prevent some tail chasing.
If it is turning over, it should start though. I too would start a new thread by recapping where you are at (the down and dirty), and we'll take it from there.
Turned out to be just plain ole cruddy battery connections, how 'bout that? Cleaned them up and started quick and strong several times over. Still gonna replace the batteries going into the winter though just for the confidence factor. I believe they're still the originals. They were a little low on water too, so I topped them off with some clean rain water.
I have new separator filter; tires; universals; oil. Still in the process of replacing tranny/radiator/differential fluids; plugs/wires and serpentine belt. I bought this truck used 1.5 years ago, and have been slowly replacing all the nornal wear & tear items because I'm one of those guys who likes to find a good deal on a vehicle used, and drive it into the ground (aka getting my money worth out of it). I also like to get all the above items changed out new so I have a good starting point on them and not leave it to fate as to the prior owner's maintenance habits. I don't really drive it that much otherwise would've already been done, so I'm doing it a little a time. I mainly use it to tow my boat around; make runs to the dump; and the occasional, okay frequent trips to Home Depot. It should last me many years. I've also a got a 1994 F-150 XLT 4x4 Centurion Ext. Cab shortbed w/ the 5.8L that has 168k miles on it and still going strong. In fact probably gonna just hand the keys over to my son and let him take it into the sunset. Moved to a bigger boat, so I had to step up the tow rig otheriwase i'd be keeping the F-150.
