Whenever you're having problems such as you describe, the first place to start is to check the codes, that's what the Onboard Diagnostics are for. You can check them yourself with a fairly inexpensive code scanner, or drop by a local autoparts store, some such as Autozone will scan it for you for free in the hopes that you'll buy any needed parts from them.
I'd also take a look at the fuel pressure.
