I have a durasparked 1984 2.8l it hesitates a little in the higher gears ( 3rd, 4th), I think the timing is a little off, I was wondering which way it needs to go to correct a hesitation/ stumble (its very slight). Advance or retard, also which way does it need to go to get this, to the firewall or away. I have put a light on it but after it is DS'ed it don't seem to be right at where the light says it should be right. Anyways any help would be appreciated.
Hi and Welcome to FTE! Please take a moment to check out the Guidelines as they contain important information that you'll need when posting on the site:
Usually you can get away with a little more advance than what is stock, and gain a little pick-up. The more it's advanced the better it will generally run until you get into detonation (pinging) and hard starting, that's where you know you need to back it off a little. As a general rule, with the engine idling you turn the dist. and if the idle speed increases then you're advancing it, if it slows you're retarding it. Of course, the vacuum needs to be disconnected while adjusting the timing when setting to spec with a light.
