I just became the new owner of an 89 f150 302 4x4 4 speed and I've got some fuel issues. Truck will idle fine them all of sudden jump up to 2 ggrand and stay there sometimes revving makes it go back down and sometimes it wont also sometimes iit kinda has a rough idle and sometimes it has a hard time starting. And sometimes even after its been running for an hour or so and is warmed up it will not start back. I've been told this was not the factory engine and wonder if someone pulled a motor from an automatic would cause computerm issues any input would be appreciated. Good to be back on this site I've been away for a while.
The engine idle speed is controlled by the computer (PCM). Anytime there is an issue with computer controlled functions you should follow these very common instructions: Check for Codes! Run the KOEO tests and CM display.
Run the tests and code display, list them here, by number, and when they were displayed. Do not reply back with "no codes". At the very least you will get the System Pass code of 11 (repeated) for KOEO and once again for CM display if there are no stored codes.
Did the koeo and if I'm reading it right I got an 81 41 and 33. Can't do the koer right now as it would wake my daughter. But I got 8 flashes then 1,
8 then 1 long pause 4,1, 3,3 then repeated 4,1,3,3.
I didn't turn the steering wheel b4 diagnostics began. There is a little round cannister on top of the ugly coffee can looking canis terrible on the passenger siside it has a large hosE coming off of it towards the passenger side couldn't tell what it was. But anyway that hose was just sittin loose on there is it suppose to be that way? I'm gonna try to pick up a hose clamp for it tomorrow. Thanks for the help this far.
