my heater core recently began leaking in my 77 f150 custom. it is non ac. is it possible for me to tell wether i have a high output heater or not? i have to order the part and i'd like to order it in advance so it'll be ready when i tear it up...
hey FORD brother,
seems it would be prudent to take the old one out first.
then you can take it to the parts house and match them up.
i am on the farm and i always take the old part with me
saves trips to town!!
not trying to tell you what to do. just a thought.
A truck with a high output heater will have an emblem on the dash under the heater controls saying so. If you have the original instrument bezel in the truck, it should have that label. Just one way to tell...
well, i appreciate the thought. i was just trying to find out which one instead of having the auto parts store order both of them. they have neither in stock, and i was going to attempt to find time if there was a way to id the heater core before removing it.
I agree totally with FarmDude, especially if you're dealing with Aftermarket Parts People.
You can always loop your heater hoses so they still flow, or block them off sealed & still use your truck.
Plus you'll get the right part 1st time there. . . .
all the different H.O. boxes I have say high output some where on them and the boxes are different for H.O and standard the standard one has a molded in baffle that the shorter heater core rests against and is daqng near impossible to cut out again look on the heater box on the side that faces the passenger compartment by where the defroster cable hooks on it could be molded into it or stenciled (I have one each way) hope this helps
