Not to bad. I remember I swung the I-Beam forward instead of trying to remove the bracket to get it loose. Probably a bolt or two out of the I-Beam enabled this, but I forget. Been awhile.
I've got to do this soon myself. Gotta install some new coil springs while im at as the one on the passenger side is collapsed. Just remove the big nut on the end of the radius arm, and i think one or two more bolts and pull the assembly foreward. (Its been about 8 years since i did it last)
ok i made a post about this a while ago then i did a search and came up with a bunch of stuuf, but i still havent found the answer i was looking for . what is the best way to replace these. can you just undo the bolt and come a long the front end forward or do you have to take it all apart. also ho do you check the pivot bushings. thanks and soorry to be a pain
For 2WD. Put jack stands under frame to safely support vehicle. Set parking brake and chock wheels. Remove sway bar linkage. Put a jack or other support under outer axle end. Either remove brake line or make sure support under axle is sufficient to prevent brake line from supporting weight of suspension. Remove radius arm nut, washer, etc. Remove pivot bolt and lower axle enough to clear frame. Support inner axle end. Use "come along" to pull axle/radius arm assembly far enough forward to remove/replace bushings. Reassemble in reverse order.
Another way to do it is to place a jack under the radius arm and jack it up so it just touches the arm enough to keep it from falling down. Then you can grind off the rivet heads, punch out the rivets, remove the bracket, replace the bushings and bolt the bracket back to the frame using grade 8 nuts and bolts. My grandpa and I did this to his 78 F-150 and it was a lot easier then the above.
yeah big hoss 29 thats basically what i did too, i never even took off the tire. i made sure i had the nut on the back of the radius arm broke free before i undid the bracket just so i wasn't trying to break a nut free on a free moving bracket.
hi yesterday i started to replace the bushings on my 84 f 150 radiousees arms. one side went fine, but the other side is giving me lots of trouble. first i busted the bolt on the back of the arm so thats junk. i hope i can find one in a junk yard. if not dose anyone know where i can get a new one cheap. problem number two is now that i have to remove the hole arm i cant get the bolt on the axle off. i have tryed pb blaster and an impact. dose this bolt just go all of the way through the axle so couldi just cut the head off of in on the bottem of the axle and beat it out. or is theraded in to something other that the nut on top.
because your calling it an axle I'll assume you have a 4 wheel drive. I don't know much about the IFS axle, but the bolt can't go all the way through, the axle shaft would get in the way.
im in the process of replacing the radious arm on my truck. i cant get the bolt out of the frontpart. i was wondering i i can just cut the head of it off and drive it outof the axle
