Hello all, I am new to the forum and in need of some advice. I have a 1982 ford F250 2 wheel drive. It has the 351w and the front rotors are shot. Brand new rotors for this truck are $66.99 (where I live) and I dont have alot of money. I am probably gonna need both, I havent had the other wheel off yet. I need to know if I can swap out to an f150 hub and all from the same year? Is it possible to use a 70's hub rotor because they are cheaper? What are my options here? If I dont figure this out, the truck gets sent off to the bone yard.
First off, an F-150 hub will not fit an F-250, you would be going from an 8 lug wheel to a 5 lug wheel. I dont know about an older F-250 hub fitting, I would check the part numbers to see if they are they same. Seems like a waste to scrap a truck over some rotors, I imagine you caould at least sell it to make a few hundred.
I know about the switch from 8 to 5 lug. Thats why I was gonna swap out the whole assembly. The problem with the scrap of the truck is, where the truck is sitting its on someone elses property. He wants it gone. He said I could have the truck if i could get it going. I live at an apartment complex so I have no storage room. It would be counterproductive to tow it cuz I dont have money for the pads and rotors right now(brand new). I do have enough for going to U-pullit.
That sucks. I think the spindle is too big to fit an F-150 rotor. How bad are the rotors. Some minimal amounts of warpage can be turned out. If they are just getting thin, I would throw some nice thick new pads on there and at least get it to your place, and you could replace the rotors later at your discretion. Just take the truck down the street once in awhile to let people know it runs.
The right rotor is Toast. the inner side(engine) of the rotor is down to the ribs. My father suggested just getting some thick new pads too, I was worried about spending the money for the pads and ruining them. Im a bit froogle, mainly cuz im poor but froogle none the less.
Yeah that is pretty bad. If you can, just replace the right one for now and swap the left one later. Just be aware that the truck may pull to one side or the other until you get the other side done. I am sure you could find some decent(better than what you got) rotors in the yard to get you by for now.
Yikes, somebody didnt know how to change pads or what?
I bet the calipers are toast also, so thats even more money, and you shouldnt trust junkyard calipers...
Might want to let somebody else know about the truck, to save it from the junkyard, it seams it need $ome work... That you might not beable to afford, and would make it dangerious to drive
Its got a really nice flat bed, the motor has about 52000 on it and its got a PTO tranny. it had a salter on it. Im looking to find out if anyone knows if any other year of hub/rotor works with this. It has a winsor 351, and I really want to keep it. but I understand his point of view. He wanted it gone like 5 days ago, and I said I could do the brakes and get it going.
Brakes arent cheap on that truck. I have a F150 with a 351 and that was expensive to get going and I didnt even have to put new rotors on it. The calipers were what killed me.
Jake beat me to it. I have an 85 F250 2wd chassis down in the pasture - haven't seen the condition of the brake system, but you're welcome to them if they can be used.
Looks like MrEleven is in Nebraska, so you're closer than I am Jake. If you guys need my help shoot me a pm.
Tim
I live in Omaha Nebraska and I dont know if the 86 brake parts will work. Everytime I looked up info on the Dual piston caliper rotor/hub combo it said 80-85. But if you guys want to look into shipping to omaha I am down for it.
On a side note I spent some time getting the beast to run again. 3 years of sleeping and she did not want to wake up. But a can of HEET and Fuel injector/Carb cleaner in the tank and TADAHHH! Shes alive and kicking. I checked the Brake fluid levels and the back was Dry as a bone. I guess I have a leak in the rear somewhere. Im gonna start bleeding brakes tomorrow. The guy whose driveway its on gave me a reprieve for getting it running... You guys and gals on here are amazing. Thanks for eveyones help so far. When I figure it out I hope to have some pics up of her soon. On top of all of this she is gonna need a name, so shoot me some ideas on that too. Thanks again for making me feel welcome.
I forgot to mention(this matters?) the truck is under 8500 lbs. I have no clue as to the difference, the over 8500 and under 8500lbs. The only thing I can think of is that the over 8500lbs gvrw gets a more common brake than the under. my truck tag says it wieghs out at 7800.
Not to mention that raises the price from 40 bucks a hub to alost 70. 70 Bucks a hub for the lighter truck hubs makes no sense to me.
do you have single piston or dual? I will look at mine Sun. If they are both single they are the same. If you or I have dual won't work. Must be different sized bearings?
