Just recently traded my 99 F-150 Scab 4x4 offroad 5.4L (167,752 miles) for an 04 F-150 Scab 4x4 5.4L (26,790 miles) and I notice a big difference in the ride. I live in the country so I have several county roads to travel that are not the smoothest to travel on. I have noticed that the front wheels seem to "hop or bounce" excessively after hitting some of the rough spots in the road. Is this just the nature of the new trucks or is there a front end problem I need to address? I am also wondering if it just the difference going from the offroad package to standard 4x4 package. Any thoughts or comments greatly appreciated.
I noticed that too. I went from a 98 F150 X-Cab 4x4 to an 05 F150 SCrew 4x4 Lariat. The on road ride in my new truck is phenominal. But, it's off road charactoristics seem to be lacking. I used to be able to blast down dirt roads and had ZERO problem keeping my truck in control. Now, I feel like I can't go over 20 MPH off road.
Both trucks have a stock suspension. So, I'm hoping some aftermarket shocks will help my new truck. I've run the Rancho RS 9000s before. Thinking I may go to the current model of them with the in cab remote to adjust them on the fly as necessary.
Don't forget guys.... these new trucks have a totally different suspension in them. The older ones relyed on torsion bars. The newer ones have coil overs. Shock options might be limited. I tend to get more bounce out of the rear than I do in the front. The rear suspension definately needs to be a little stiffer.
I have the 50 on mine and it sounds great! I had a 40 on my Expedition and I got a lot of resonance in the truck at 2200 RPM's. It sounded great as long as you weren't at 2200 but other than that it got a little annoying. The 50 and the 40 both have a nice deep rumble to them and sound great when opened up. The 50 has no "drone" inside the cab.
