Changed mine at 15500k and they too were really clean, so that felt nice. The shower of diesel fuel felt nice too. It's an easy job, but messy as hell. I do think next time I'll put the truck on a lift so i'm not lying on my back and gettin diesel dripping off the frame and into my face.
thanks to fte, i just did mine yesterday. read the tech article and all the treads on fuel filter change before hand. excellent info!!! all the little tips and tricks helped. i prevented the fuel from running down the frame rail and dripping on me by stuffing a bunch of paper towels on the rail right behind the filter.
the filter that was in there had 14500 miles on it according to the prior owner records. it was BLACK with dirt, so was the engine filter. there was also a bunch of little chunks of black stuff that came out of the drain when i pulled the plug. (changed to the knurled plug while i was in there...thanks again fte for the tip!).
