Good deal, I found the right spot. I'll call and make arrangements. Earlier I threw out 1:00PM on Saturday the 11th as the date and time. I have not heard anybody say otherwise, so I'm guessing that is a good time. I'll report back when I have a confirmation. Jag
All right everybody. It's official. I contacted Jim's and they said Saturday at 1:00pm on Nov. 11th was great. I specualted that we might have ten people attending. The restaurant is 1.0 miles south of the fairgrounds. Just take Rose Ave. south and turn right on
First St. which turns into Sunol. Please let me know if you can make it. More than ten is no prob Bob. I have already listed Bronco Babe for a party of two. Please make an effrt to attend. It should be great. Jag
When the date gets a little closer, I'll have a better idea. It's kind of far for me but it may be a good excuse to get out of the snow. There are indications that it might be an early winter this year. Of course, another consideration is that if the passes are a reasonably safe travel route too.
Jag, I'll RSVP if I can show.
Two weeks and counting. We should have a blast getting to put a face with the name. Rumor has it that they have good food at this place, so come hungry. Jag
It would have been very cool to meet all of you at this event.
Hopefully we'll have another one?
I was thinking of just calling everyone together and just having lunch one day on the weekend. Doesn't have to be a car show or anything fancy.
Alright everybody, this Saturday the 11th is the big day:
Jim's Country Style Restaurant
(925) 426-7019
5400 Sunol Blvd Ste 1
Pleasanton, CA 94566
I have received several "maybes" on attending. However, I need some firm RSVPs so I know how many to expect. This will be a fun event. The more the merrier. Thanks, Jag
Put me down as a definite possible maybe...I'm fighting transportation issues. It's looking like the Ranger won't be ready, the wiring is driving me nuts and taking way longer than I had expected. That leaves me with the F250, which wanders all over the road and gets 10mpg to boot. (Maybe on a trip it'll get 12.) I may say to heck with it and drive it anyway as I don't know if the SHO (my only other option) will be available Sat.
Anyway, I've cleared my calendar for Saturday so I can go to the car show if I can get there...
Update: The F250 decided it didn't like one of it's u-joints any longer and spit it out yesterday, and I won't have time to fix it till Sunday. But I have snagged the SHO for the day so, barring any 7.0 or above earthquakes or other natural disasters between now and Sat. I fully expect to be there.
I'm planning to get there around 9:00. Look for the short chubby hideously ugly guy with the black Sunbeam Tiger cap and the orange Cobra jacket. I'll be wearing an FTE T-shirt as well, but I don't imagine it'll be warm enough to take off the jacket.
Well, I have to express my disappointment here. I drove 120 miles down to Pleasanton this morning (took me 3 hours with traffic and a wreck...not mine at least!) and arrived at the fairgrounds at 10:30. It was an interesting show, but my main interest was in meeting up with some of you. If not for that, I wouldn't have gone.
I was at Jim's restaurant at 1:00 PM and nobody else showed. I talked to two different employees at the restaurant and neither of them had any idea what I was talking about when I mentioned FTE. I waited for 30 minutes and then gave it up, went back to the fairgrounds where I had to pay another 8 bucks for parking to get back in. Got lots of pics anyway...
But I have to say, if this is any example of how a Chapter GTG is going to go down, I'm not likely to come down off the hill to try it again. I felt pretty stupid standing there at Jim's by myself with my thumb up my...well, you know. I was really looking forward to meeting up with some of you and finally putting faces to the names...I thought we had a lot of interest in this, what happened?

Oh Dan, that just down right sucks! It was a bit far for me and my wood pile needed attention for winter prep. I wont bother you with anything else for excuses, except that I never RSVP'd to go in the first place. At least I didn't make a commitment and then not show. Let me personally assure you that if this Ford Guy states that he's gonna show up, he will show up, unless something very serious occurs to the contrary.
Sorry for your disappointment. Please don't lose faith in a successfull GTG. I'm sure something closer between us here, maybe in the Sacramento or Sierra area, will occur.
What happened to Jag and the others? maybe you missed paths?
