i need a hand figuring out some things about tiresize compared to lift. im checking out tirepackage.com and they seem to ahve some nice things, so im trying to piece together a set for myself. im just having trouble deciphering all the codes and sizes. im in the process of doing a 6" all leaf suspension lift and a 4 inch body lift. all this backspacing and stuff is confusing me, cause im kinda new at this. so im wondering what kind of width/height/backspacing im gonna need to fit a 39 or 40" super swamper.
as far as lug pattern and spacing, its a 1997 f350 with 8 lug rims. can someone help me out?
and i dont drive the truck often on big roads. my job is 2 minutes from my house and all my friends live close by. i mud (nothing too serious) at a friends pit. its no tank trap, but its a good bit of fun.
all this stuff is making me more confused, so can someone please explain it to me?
*edited to say im looking at the procomp 1069 polished wheels.

The procomps are some nice wheels, I was going to get them, but I really wanted the Mickey Thomson Classic IIs(basically the same wheel, but the MTs were $1) and I got them from tire package too.
The wheels will probably have around 4" backspacing, which is good, but what size tires do you want? 39x13.50 or somthing like 39x16?
Just a suggestion, a 4" body lift might cause some unwanted troubles and put your steering shaft in a bind due to the large angle. You might want to try some bushwacher cut out flares or just trim your fenders for the little extra room needed to clear the 39s.
On my 79 Bronco with 6" lift, I know I could clear 39s without much problems at all, except maybe at full flex.
first of all, if you run a 4" body lift we will ban you
go to sky manufacturing and order their 5" shackle reversal kit. then go out and hunt you a set of 1999 to 2004 superduty leaf springs (from a diesel). this will lift your truck about 5.5-6" and it will ride much smoother than any lift kit sold. however you will need to cut the rivets off and move the shackle hanger reward a lil to accomadate the longer leafs of the superduty, but it's well worth the work!
with that being said, you should easily be able to fit 35's and with a 6" you should be able to run 38's. i ran 35's for several months on my stock suspension where the springs are almost neg arch
97's are still old body style, the standard 8.5x6 lug pattern. dodge, chevy and ford all used it from the later 70's till late 90's

haha cutts, after pricing all teh components, i actually nixed the 4" body lift. i was planning on getting the flip and reversal from sky, but then i found out that PA has a lift law where the bottom of the frame can only be 29 inches high. im already at 21.5". if i got the 6" leafs and the 5" flip & reversal, id be at 32.5". but im not too sure how strict they are around here, cause ive seen some large trucks where i live.
its the old body style, and i wanna have wide tires preferrably. i was looking on sky's site, and they say the 5" flip will let you run 37" tires, so i was thinking about going that route, but id like to go wide too.
and cutts, mind explaining that lug pattern you mentioned?
That lug pattern is 8 lug x 6.5", I think Fishy had made a typo.
nope, 8.5 lugs by 6" b/t them (yes it is a typo)
well you could always go with the smaller 3" sky kit and just run your stocker springs. i run 35's with no mods to my suspension (as of yet) and i have almost the exact same truck as you. if you trim the front bumper lip (on a stock bumper) you can do it. get the sky 3" kit you could prolly run 37-38's with some rubbing depending on your wheels!
what, more specifically, size tires would you like to run? and is this gonna be a mudding/daily truck?
well, its gonna be a daily driver, doing some mudding almost every weekend. i dont wanna trim my fenders, cause theyre still in really nice condition.
i wanna run like 37'' or 38'' super swamper tsl's, on a 10 or 12" wide rim.
i also just found out that i have to buy a drop bumper for the rear beacuse the PA lift law says the bumper can only be 30" tall, and its 26 now. so im looking at a 10" drop bumper, because if i can do the 6" springs, ill be happy.
on the other hand, that 5" sky kit is looking more and more enticing. its alot cheaper, and all i gotta get is new shocks.
