why they mix metric and standard on the same part?

so.....i was removing my nerf bars today and....oh yes, the front and back are standard and the middle ones are metric!

why in the world would ANYONE mix the 2 together on the same peice?!?!

and the thing is, its not like it was installed by some guy i bought it from, i bought the truck new from the dealer with them on!

anyways, just airing out my frustrations as i have to go by a metric socket to fit, right after i bought my standard socket to fit the one i looked at earlier.

That kind of stuff drives me insane!! I had a 90 K-5 Blazer that needed a new alternator. It had 4 different bolt that were metric and standard and no 2 bolts were the same size. It was enough to make the Pope cuss.

85 E150 was the same way. Some bolts were metric and some standard even on the same part, the alternator being one of them. It does not bother me unless I can't find my 10MM stuff...

When I have been limited to either standard or metric I have purchased metric because they seem to fit the standard stuff better in a pinch.

i swear..they just do that to drive us nuts(short drive for me and some others). But I am used to using metric now after working at the body shop and having a lot of newer vehicles with mostly metric bolts.

They do that to drive you insane and hope that next time you will just bring it to a dealer. I just put a clutch in my fathers 94 Wrangler, 6 bolts on the bellhousing, 4 metric bolts, 2 different sizes, and 2 inverted torx bits. I had to spend $40 on an inverted torx bit set that I most likely will never use again.

When I converted my Mustang AC to R-134, I pulled the compressor and bracket off to flush it.
Out of 7 bolts, they had 3 with metric heads on them, but SAE threads.

The worse I have seen was someone used metric bolts on a 1971 F-100 I bought to hold in the mini-king pin caps. Butchers.

Metric threaded bolts aren't going to screw into SAE holes very easy. Cross thread and/or stripped and/or sloppy.

Certain sizes match up close enough to allow either wrench to work.

7/16 = 11 mm

9/16 = 14mm

5/8 = 16mm

Plus some others.

I used to be in materials management and used to come across bolts called out by metric pitch but length in inches. Enginerds...
