I just pickup a set of 37-12.50R16.5 Goodyear Wrangler MT tires and I am trying to find out what width rim I should run them on. They have been sitting for awhile and the beads are currently only 4 or 5 inches apart. I am going to use them on my 84 for towing and plowing. Also, has anyone had any experience with how well these tire hold up?
Since 2000 I have been running 35" BFG AT's year round for plowing, towing and daily driving. The only problem I seem to have is towing heavy loads. I am hoping to install lockers and 4.88's in the future. I love plowing with the larger tires, they extra height helps keep the truck from getting stuck. I have been looking for narrow 16.5, but most of the aftermarket rims are 9.75" wide. I have a set of steel wheels that are 6" wide, but I think that would be too narrow.
unless you plan to air down the 9.75's are your best choice. in fact thats what the tire manufacturers advise.
if all your going for is weight, why not throw some sandbags in the bed? then when you arent plowing your fuel mileage wont suffer b/c you can take them out.
