Hi all, can anyone tell me how to get the vin number of my truck authenticated by FoMoCo. I've been to their web site but there's nothing about older vintage pick-ups there. I'm trying to do this because my truck is supposed to be a '65 model Ranger, and I've been told 65 was the first year for the Ranger and very few were built that first year. Thanks for any input.
Or at least that's their official story anyway. The oldest vehicle which they can (or will) give you a VIN report on is 1967. I tried my 66 and they told me no can do. You can verify certain options manually by decoding your VIN. Ranger trim packages should be possible. I'll give it a shot if you tell me some info about your truck. (ie., like just about everything you can tell me about it).

Walker, 65 was the first year of the Ranger. The truck will have Ranger fender emblems, full carpet, a console, bucket seats, and a fiberglass gas tank cover.
thanks guys for your prompt replies, john my truck does have bucket seats, similar to period mustang seats, full carpet and ranger side emblems. however the console is missing. it was also supposed to have some kind of special alloy wheels, but they're gone too. stockman here's my vin# F10DL696888 and the body code is F81. i have some history on the truck, mostly second hand, it was bought new at the Prestwood Ford dealership here in LaFayette, Ga.
and i'm the third owner, fourth if you count the car lot i bought it off of in 1979, it is painted raven black with red/black interior, it has door panels in red and a white headliner, full chrome trim inside and out. it has the original 352 FE v-8 and 3 on the tree tranny. i have the '65 ford shop manuals but there is little or no info strictly about rangers in them. would there be manuals strictly for rangers, do you think? i would like to see what you can come up with, stockman and compare it to my code breakdown of the vin#. Thank you very much for your time, i'd like to be able to return the favor sometime, i know a couple of guys in Covington, Ga that are into old galaxies and fairlanes etc.. i'll try to find out if they know of any wheels like you need.
I am not sure I can add a lot more than what John already has stated. There are no resouirces or books that I am aware of which pertain exclusively to pick-ups with the ranger option.
Here is what I do know:
>here's my vin# F10DL696888
F10 -- Series Code (F-100)
D -- Engine Code (352 2v)
L -- Assembly Plant (Michigan Truck)
696,888 -- Consecutive Unit No.
(58,001 was 1st truck--732,000 last).
> and the body code is F81.
F -- Interior Trim Code
81 -- Conventional pick-up
I can't verify the interior color but that should be in the front of your "Preliminary Shop" manual. Unfortunately, there is no special coding that I am aware of for the ranger option. I couldn't find any information in the Master Part or Accessory Catalog either. Sorry. I think that you have to focus on the option details on your truck to determine whether or not they were added or factory. It would seem like these details could easily be made to appear factory. You might try to track down the original invoice from the dealership where the truck was purchased. As strange as it sounds I was able to get the invoice for my 67 a few months ago.

Your very Welcome. The best way to learn more is to tackle new problems. The rims are a catch 22. The car came with 3 14" and an odd ball 15" each with its very own baloney skin. I can't buy the new treads until I get the right rims. I can't drive the care until I get the new treads.
E-mail me off BBS if you locate any leads. Thanks.

Walker,it is also my understanding that 65 was the first year for the Ranger, and sad to say there is no code for them. However to the best of my knowlege the Prestwoods still live in Lafayette, Ga. That is where I grew up, and knew their daughter very well. Mr. Prestwood has gone to the big Ford dealership in the sky, so I don't know if any sales records still exist or not. Did you buy the truck in Rock Springs? From Ken Smith? I ask because he had one about that time. The next time I go home I will try to dig up the dirt on the ford place and let you know what I find, good luck, send me an E-mail so I can get you, my address is--- carport at mindspring.com --- Tommy Wright, Music City F-100s.
