I have a aod in my 1960 falcon, trans brake, manual valvebody runing in the 10.7s and driving it on the street. If done right it will hold up. And a aod in my 1964 F 100 with 3.89 gears. Check out this site. http://www.ford-aod.com/

Got the Dominator JR. & the adaptor kit about a week ago.
The adaptor plate/flex plate/starter are top notch in fit & finish.
Came extremely well packed with the Lokar kick down cable/Holley adaptor plate/Dipstick/1800 stall converter/oil cooler.
Adaptor plate bolted right up.... (After lifting the cab up because we installed the first rebuild with the old C6 attached.....I have been running my 2nd rebuild for about 200 miles.......will replace the old cab mounts with some fresh ones as long as it is jacked up.)
Needless to say it was a b*&ch getting the tranny out....
Tranny will be in today..........will see how much driveshaft will be shortened and what else we need after getting it mounted up.
This truck gets more expensive...but better & more reliable each time we do these practical upgrades to it.
I have a '65 Ford F100 with a 302 V8 (.030 over). Some modifications are a Crane Cam, Holley 570CFM, GT40 heads, Crane Energizer Roller Rockers, Keith Black pistons, FlowTech headers and FlowMaster 40 Series mufflers.
This truck currently has an FMX transmission with a 2000 stall.
I have been given an AOD transmission out of a '89 Mustang that had a 5.0 in it.
Will this work on my motor? If so can anyone tell me what all I'll need to do to make this change?
........or would a C6 or maybe C4 be a better choice?
Any and all suggestions would be greatly appreciated!
I'd pass on the AOD...a troubled transmission from the get go. They're expensive to rebuild...and the mileage gain will be minor. A C-6 would be the best choice, but they're hard to find for a small block. A C-4 will work just fine...it's a solid trans and cheap to fix. Just add a shift kit.
A pickup with aerodynamics of a brick, short stroke 302 pulling 2.37 gear ratio you must have 24" diameter tires or some super torque motor to pull that gear.
With a 28" tall tire your at 1,707 rpm's at 60 mph or 1,991 rpm's with 24" tall tire at 60 mph. JMO's.

Torque destroys auto trannies and nothing better than a diesel to do carnage.
Give a gas motor driver a diesel stick and kiss the, no smell the clutch good by
unless they know how to control and respect diesel torque.
Like our company Dodge trucks, WTF as you get thrown forward when someone hits 2,900 1st gear. My truck went 8 years then another driver destroyed the clutch within two weeks, tells owner it was going out anyway.
Yeah, a gas motor needs to rev up a little to see max torque, like 3-4000 rpms. And then it falls off sharply after 4000. A diesel not only gives you max torque like... right off the get go, but it has GOBS of it as well, and it has a flat torque curve from like 1500 rpms all the way to 3500. but the main point is, If you are going to hit the weekend bracket races, or find yourself towing thousands of pounds, steer away from an AOD, and get a C6. and yes I know that they are pigs on the highway going 70 mph, because of that 1:1 3rd gear ratio, but I guess my priority is towing power and towing ability, not speed. Also, I agree with the stick shift thing, most gassers need the engine revved up, then slightly release the clutch until it catches, and then your off. But with a diesel, you usually you dont even need to press the gas pedal...lol just ease on the clutch and go, and thats where most gas drivers would cook a clutch to a crisp...lol they would rev the diesel up, then feather the clutch in, and fail to realize that unlike a gasser, your diesel is now pumping out max torque, like 4-500 lb/ft, and that spells disaster for clutches.

Here is the link to the site I mentioned in an earlier post. I've talked with them on the phone and their very helpful. In case you want to rebuild it yourself or have them do it for you.
Get a C-6 loaded with extra clutches, custom low stall convertor with anti ballooning and needle bearings, add the biggest cooler in line with yor radiator
and a GearVenders OD.
Dave; what's this 4-500 pound torque thing, hell I have over 500 pounds at 2,950 with my gasser, going to 600 in another gasser build.
