I am working on a 1969 Torino Fastback. The driver side window has come off the track. Apparently it is glued in place to the part that runs off the regulator. Does anyone know the proper way to repair this? what type of adhesive needs to be used. I have searched the web, but cannot find any info on this.
I hope someone here can help me. I am planning on going to the dragstrip next week, but i cant if my windows dont roll up.
Thanks
Matt
Pull out the glass and track and take it to a glass shop. there are several different sizes of tape that might be used. Or even take the whole vehicle with the door panel off. I have done this with vent windows and sometimes there is no charge.
They use a rubber strip of adhesive. They come in different thicknesses. You have to clean the glass and the old metal track. If you have the adhesive. You cut to the length needed. It lays inside the groove of the track where the glass goes in. Don't cut it in half. Make sure the adhesive goes up both sides of the channel. It should be fitted in u shape. The glass fits in the u shape area and you push down on it on a work bench. After it sqeezes in which should be very snug. Turn the glass upside down with the glass edge protected with rags. Take a rubber mallet and finish tapping the channel back in place even tighter.
Also take a marker and mark where the channel ends were so when you put it back together you will not be to far forward or back. That will affect how the glass fits in the dorr when cranking it up or down.
