I have a 94 4.0 150000 miles on it. The AC has a good size leak in the core that is near the radiator. I don't have the money to fix the leak and I live in NH so I really don't require air conditioning too often. I have decided to remove the entire system. By removing the system it will give me access to other things that need attention.
Other than a different serpentine belt are there other things I need to consider in removing this?? Thanks to all who reply.
It all depends on how much of it do you want to replace? Yes you can remove the compressor and cut the lines going into the evaporator... everything else just pretty much unbolt and remove it. Might be a bit of a pain removing the evaporator and the condensor, but there's really no harm in leaving them in place.
I don't really understand what you want us to tell you?
I don't intend on putting any of it back in, I just want to get it out of the way. I can't afford to pay to fix the system and removing it will allow me easier access to the spark plugs etc. I just want to cover all bases in case there is something I don't understand about the system or if removing it will affect anything else.
if you remove the compressor you will need a diff belt and possibly a whole new belt configuration. besides that, id just unbolt and unplug everything and take it out
if you remove the evaporator and the parts on the firewall, you are going to need to go get a heater core box assembly off of a ranger without AC otherwise you will end up with a big hole that will pull air from your engine compartment into the cab, or you will have to patch it with something that will look tacky but that would need to be closed off someway. otherwise like everyone else said you can remove the rest of it and leave that without any trouble.
GREAT! Thanks guys for all the replies. I felt I had a pretty good idea about what was involved but wanted to be sure. You all supplied that!
Thanks again
