Hi I have a 2000 Ford F-150, recently my truck was involved in an accident and the bumper was destroyed, I took it to the progressive service center and they said they would do everything for me, today when I went to pick it up from progressive, I noticed that my front bumper had about a 2 inch gap between it and the body of the truck, I know for sure it wasnt like that before the acident, I was almost in tears trying to explain to the person that its not suposed to look that way, I love my truck and I just cant bare the thought of having to drive it around looking like that. He said he would fix so I went home, relived that they wernt gonna try to stick it to me.
A couple hours later he calls back saying that thats the way its suposed to look and he has another ford truck that also has a huge gap. but I know it wasnt like that before
Doe's anyone know what the actual manufacturers specifications on that gap should be?
also does it varry from year to year, because most 2000 pictures ive looked at have almost no gap at all,
If anyone has any advice on how I should deal with this it would be most apreciated.
My truck is a manual v6 with the tiny little non extended cab.
Sorry to hear about your truck being in an accident.
I have a 1998 F150 4x4. I'm thinking there's no difference in bumper gap between 4x2, 4x4 and the year. Check out my gallery and you'll find pics of my truck. Check it versus yours and let us know what you find out. Good luck, and hopefully everything comes out okay for you.
To put it in perspective grafekie, I viewed your 2002 red F-150, in your album, and the space between my bumber and the grill is aproximatly 3-4 times that of your very nice looking truck. before I gave it to them it was at least as close as yours, maybe even closer.
I did a little reading and I discovered that some trucks have a slotted bracket that allows you to move the bumper up and down by loosening 2 bolts on either side, I know that my original bumber brackets did not have this feature (I atempted to replace the bumper my self untill I got the bumper off and discovered that the mounting bracket that is welded to the frame was severly damaged and I dont have welding equiptment) My hope is that they installed slotted brackets in place of my stationary ones and just left it on the lowest position, if thats the case Ill fix it my self in 5 mins. They still have my truck so I have no idea what the situation is.
Id also still like to know if anyone knows what the official distance should be, or of anyplace I can find this info out, worst comes to worst Id like to have some ammo to throw in the guys face.
My truck has the slotted brackets. It dropped on one side this summer when it was hit at a parking lot. I loosened the bolts & jacked it back in place. I hope yours can be done this way too. If they used stationary brackets they must be welded on too low IMO.
I just walked down to my neighbors house who has a 2003 F150 FX4, should be the same style/look as your 2000. The gap on his bumper-to-body is exactly .75" .. at the ends by the fender it's closer to 1". 2" would look like crap to me, it's got to have adjustment slots, tell them to just slide it up an inch.
