help-- my son has a 05' f350 6.0 and has been denied warranty because of aftermarket acceccories (chip) Manufacturer said no way there product could have been the cause of just those 2 cylinders to fail. all other cylinders look find. is there a known problem on the drivers side of this motor??? please help
this would be better posted in the 6.0 forum, maybe one of the mods can move it. what to you mean cylinders failed? did they fail a contribution test are they damaged are the pistons burnt or damaged? i hate to say it but a tuner and a heavy foot can cause all kinds of problems.
I'm afraid hootbro is probably right. Ford knows about the chip, the warranty is gone, and you can forget about the chip manufacturer doing jack for you.
Unfortunately, it's going to be a long and expensive repair.
thanks to all for replies, but why would just 2 cylinders show burn paterns and not the other 6. why did the valve hit the #8 piston. and yes the heavy foot did not help!!!!!!!
Hint for "next time". Remove all traces of the aftermarket equipment prior to taking it to dealer! Maybe you would try doing just that at a different dealership...maybe first one didn't send the info in on an Oasis report. If you get a "Sorry Charlie", nothing lost, right?
If there's contact between the piston and a valve, it almost sounds like it was over-revved and the valve floated.
But since it's no longer "chipped", shouldn't it be impossible ?
These days "chipped" could mean a programmer was plugged in, the computer program changed, and the programmer removed. You could still have an updated program in the computer, which Ford noticed. If that's the case, the warranty is gone.
However, what I'd do is tell them to provide (in writing) proof that it's been chipped.
I play but I do my own work on the truck. A technician can see a star pattern on the piston. A valve hitting the piston could be from a lifter, that needs to be addressed and looked at.
Private message me your VIN and I'll see what the OASIS has going.
