Hello everyone, I'm A newbe. I have a problem I know you guys can help.
I Drag race a 79 mustang with a 390 fe. i have spun #7 Rod bearing. Then I
Did Rebuild it again. After fixing the oiling problem I made 32 passes and spun
# 2 rod bearing. Am I forgeting anything I run this at 7000 rpm I resticted
The Heads with #90 holley jet, and chamfered the mains also bored out the oilpump hole Any info would help! thanks.
Sounds like you need a BIGGER oil pan! More like a 7 to 8 QRT pan. Thats the first rod that it will take out. I also saw that happen to a 427 with a small 5 qrt oil pan.
Dew, I suspect you're fast enough in that car to have the same problems the 428 'stangs had in 67 & 68. What do you have for an oilpan ? What kinda oilpump ? The older 'stangs, when accellerated hard enough, had a problem with the oil sloshing to the back of the pan, away from the pump's pickup tube. Ford solved it by adding a windage tray and running 6 quarts instead of 5. What Ford did worked, but was kinda quick and dirty. A better design of oilpan is the best cure. DinosaurFan
I have a 7 qt pan rear sump out of a old 75 highboy 360 block i have Complete dove roller rocker set speed-pro pistons, h-beam rods, cast heads that have 209 intake 165 exhaust valves. fully ported 63 shaved to 63 cc gives me 11.2-1 compression
Oil pump is high volumn Melling
This time i'm going 449 stroker but I want to fix this Problem. How much Clearance For Mains & Rods I Had 0015-00175 thousands maybe Thats Too Tight , I'm Not sure.
Dew, those bearings are way to tight. I run mine at .003~.0035 on the mains and no tighter than .0025 on the rods. I wouldn't be afraid of up to .0045 with what you're doing. yes, the pressure will be a little lower with the big clearances, but the extra oil moving across the bearings will also keep them nice and cool.
