Gasoline

i herd that if i were to use 87 oct in my truck (which is a 4.6l and has a 9.5 compression ratio)i would get better performance than if i used 93 oct because of the lower compression ratio? any thoughts

most engines in the last few years have been designe to work very well with 87 gas. a few years ago, some motoros had a variable timing (ignition) which the computer chould changed by looking for spark knock. if you put high grade gas in that motor, it might get better milage. newer trucks are expecting to see 87 gas and most people believe it is a waste of money to put high test in it. you might actually due better with the 87 grade due to the burn rate- timing in the newer motors.

Why use a fuel that is more expensive? The only reason to use a higher octane is when you have a higher compression or advanced your timing beyond stock (programmers do this). There is no more energy in a 91, 89, or 93 octane fuel than in an 87. The difference is in the ignition resistance - some fuel companies also add more detergents, but they are not really necessary in most cases. The knock sensor will take care of the engine timing, but it's based on the stock ECU programming. Stock programming is expecting to see 87 octane, if you put in anything with a higher octane... the computer will change nothing.
