compression ratio

Can I expect pinging On my 1989 302 with compression ratio at 9.55/1 ?

It depends on the fuel you are using, and the cam you have. If you have the stock cam, you can expect cylindar pressures around 180 psi. The static compression ratio doesn't dictate the detonation/fuel requirements as much as the dynamic compression, or cylindar pressure. Above 180 psi, you should run premium (93 octane), and your timing advance should not exceed 36-38 BTDC. below that, you can get away with midgrade fuel/or even the cheap stuff, so long as your timing does not exceed 36 deg. BTDC, again, depending on cylidar pressure.
