The only 2bbl. intake I have ever seen for a Lima was on 370 truck engines in the 80's. I think it might fit on a 460, but I don't think it would be a good idea.
429, yes. 460's were all 4 barrels, but the 429 manifold will fit the 460. If you are looking for a fuel economy boost, the 2 barrel will be worse than a 4 barrel. The 429 2 barrels were in Ford 1969 and up full sized Fords and Mercurys. I can't remember what the last year was, but when the cars shrunk the motors won't fit by the 80's.
You might consider a "spread bore" type carbureator. Those are carbs that have small primaries and big secondaries. They are supposed to be a decent compromise for power and economy.
If you keep your foot out of it, the small primaries give good mileage, while the big secondaries open up for power only when you need it.
I don't know, but a 460 is probably too big to be effieicent working with a 2 barrel since the carb probably has to be larger than is efficient so that it still has decent power. If it is too small, the engine will choke when you need the power.
All 460s came with at least a 600CFM 4 barrel and some came with the Motorcraft copy of the spreadbore carb style. A 2 barrel was deemed "not enough for the cubic inches involved". I suppose a 500 or a 650 CFM 2 barrel would handle it (2 barrels are rated at twice the vacuum as 4 barrels so the numbers don'r compare well without do math . 3" for the 2 barrel and 1 1/2" for the 4 barrel) but there is no fuel effieicency with a 2 barrel of that size. They are classed as High Performance carbs.
I have heard that the 2 barrels that were used on the 429's had large venturi's. The dirt track guys that run 2 barrels like to use them for that reason. I have a complete 2 barrel 429 sitting in my shop that I saw sitting in a yard in front of a garage. I stopped and ask if it was for sale and the lady told me that if I could load it I could have it. It is a DOVE block and DOVE heads. It had only been outside for a week when I found it. I haven't touched it yet. I would like to do a stroker with it.
I have 2 87 460-s with 2 barrel carbs. one in a 87 F250. And one on my shop floor. My F250 gets about 12 miles per gallon and dosn't lack for power.
I repeat, NO 460s EVER CAME FROM THE FACTORY WITH A 2 BARREL IN THE F- SERIES PICKUPS. Somebody either swapped the manifold or carb or more likely, from your mpg numbers, you have a 429 swapped in there.
o7, I am not going to sit here and aurgue with you on this, you go out and get the emissions tag with that one it, and the casting number off the intake manifold, heads and block with good pictures as well as the part number off the carb then I will start to believe you, but only after you actually do some research showing ford offering a 2bbl carb on a 460.
i will say this one more time just incase I wasn't clear the first time
FORD DID NOT OFFER A 2BBL CARB ON THE 460 ENGINE IN ANY CONFIGURATION, OR IN ANY APPLICATION EVER PERIOD.
