It looks from the pix that you have a real solid starting point. Engines are easy and plentiful compared to good sheet metal. Congratulations!

Welcome to the board. It looks like a good solid project.

Does your MIG have a gas capability? if so I would recommend it, its alot cleaner

Good luck with it

I'm afraid it's going to be difficult to weld sheetmetal with fluxcore wire. The ONLY way to repair rust is to cut it all out back to completely solid metal and replace it with new metal. Anything else is putting bandaids on someone who's stepped on a land mine.

I would reconsider the 5" chop thats a whole lot. Maybe you have already made your mind up but you should set in one that has a 5" chop first. I wouldnt go more than 3"
But to each his own.

Good looking truck Claude. Best of luck, sounds like you have some big plans already in mind. Keep your gallery updated so we can watch your progress. Good luck.

I'd chop up a picture of it first either in a photoediting program or print out a side view and get out the scissors and glue. As thick as it is in the body below the windows and how limited the visibility will end up I too would reconsider, plus the more you take out the more difficult it will be to put back together, with any chop at all you will need to stretch the roof front to back and side to side. May also want to reconsider that welder and trade it up for one with shielding gas and a little more oomph if you plan on doing all that body and frame work yourself. No sense shooting yourself in the foot before taking up tap dancing...

As a traditional hot rod and kustom enthusiast, who doesn't own a single gold chain or lawn chair (I'm not even 30 yet) I would do some photo-choppin first. If you take too much off the top without sectioning the body it tends to look off. And you can always tack weld it up, see how it looks, then take away more if needed. If you chop too much it's hard to go back. Cool truck, sounds like a fun project.

edit:
I found this and thougth I would share with everyone. 1949 with a 3" chop. I love it, looks sort of like a studebaker.

I thank all of you for your come back on this. To 48' fordster I gave $900.00 for it.
AXracer I would like to have the money to buy a gas shielded welder but its Just not in my budget right now I thought i could use my wire welder to tack every thing in place then take the cab to my cousin and let him finish it i can do all the clean up on it when he is done. About the top i plan on cutting the top from side to side and from front to back to spread it apart i don't want to lay the wind sheild back i don't like the way they look i think i found another top and doors. I have to go look at it it's a 51 don't know if a 50 and 51 body is the same or there different if anyone can tell me it would save me a fifty mile drive to look at it.
Voneville I like the pic i may only take 4 inches out. I'm going to take pics of my cab like AXracer said to and print them out and cut them to see where to go on the top. I like um low I'm only 5'10" short so my son tells me. he's 16yrs old 6'2" 230 ALL muscle. He does all the heavy work.
I wan't to thank all of YOU for your input and advice goodlord knows i need as much as i can get. I HAVE A DREAM AND SOME DAY I WILL DRIVE ITTTT....

With lower seats even your son would be able sit comfortably, even if he cant see stop lights or road signs. Speedway Motors sells a little clam shaped mirror you put on the dash to help see stuff above the roof line, lots of kustom sleds can't see the lights. That price was a steal!
