I have a single 40 series flowmaster with dual oulet. It definately is a little loud. But for me I'd rather hear the exhaust rather than have to look at the tac. to know if the truck is running.
if the 40s are not loud enough for you, try this first as I just did it. Cut the muffler off and see if you like it. If that is not loud for you....then go your route. Just trying to save you some $$$

I'm going to just get get the muffler cut off and a y pipe put in place of it..
The cops may not pull you over for the loud exhaust, but in my case have been pulled over for speeding (going with the flow of traffic on the express way) because the extra noise draws attention to yourself. Just a thought.
The cops shouldn't bother with you, I mean the ones here don't really care; i know people with open headers that haven't gotten a ticket.. I'm gonna pay 60 bucks to get the muffler cut out and a y pipe in the place..
so no one is having any resonance issues at certain rpm's, w/the 50 series? (std tailpipe) preferably 4.6, all stock otherwise. If not, i'm getting rid of this Magnaflow and getting a 50 series. I'm really tired of that loud interior resonance at the 1700-1900 rpm range , which happens to be about what i drive at. Around town you wouldn't even know it was on there. Its the highway and slight grades or loading the little engine that could. '05 scab XLT black & arizona tan, 4.6. paul.....
I am getting no resonance at all at any RPM! I have the tips coming out behind each rear wheel with 3"SS. It really sounds nice. It is definately a big improvement over the 40 that I had on my Expedition. I am about like you, I got tired of all the noise! It sounded good when I first put it on, then it got old after about 4 yrs of constantly hearing it!
