np 435 rebuild gone wrong!!!!

Unhappy np 435 rebuild gone wrong!!!!

I just put new bearings, syncros and new first and reverse gears in it and A new input shaft, mated the tranny and transfer case together and now first and reverse wont spin. third and fourth are fine but when u go to spin it in reverse or first it really hard to spin if at all. what did I do wrong?? its not in the truck yet but wanted to see it turned. like I said its turns really well in third and fourth second Kinda hangs up too. HELP!!!!!!

Maybe check in the drivetrain forum or the 4x4 forum ?

Its possible to get the gears in backwards.

Make sure that you got the shift forks grooves onto the blocking ring correctly or it's possible to get it in two gears at once, which ain't gonna get you anywhere.

Sounds like you missed ths fork slot on the gear, reverse seems to be the one that gives the most trouble.
I ran across a good rebuild section last week, PM for information if needed.

well thanx guys. The shift tower will have new forks on it and I will make sure that forks got set in there right. thanx

some good news I got the forks in the slots but reverse and first seem to be turning but very tight. should I take them out and maybe sand each gear till they mesh well or just put it in the truck and take it easy till they break in?

Somethings not right, you have enough end clearance on the input shaft? You checked the synchro clearances?
I wouldn't run it as it could destroy itself and lock up on the road then what, go thru another box and labor?
