Did you ever deal with the o2 code you got? I had a 2.9l do EXACTLY what you describe, threw an o2 lean code, replaced the sensor and it was fixed. They are cheap enough, I'd suggest replacing it as a matter of principal after it has set anyway, just to be sure.
