its a brand new cable and i've checked for kinks and everything. When i hook it up to my drill, while leaving the cable in the same position, it runs perfect and i get a nice steady speed reading.
Its the plastic gear on the tail shaft of my transfer case. I haven't tore into it, but when i put my finger in the hole i can feel that the gear teeth have a very slight 'u' groove in it from where the speedo gear (from cable) inter-twines with it. Dealer said i need to take it out and show them to verify the color of it, so they can order the right one....now that its winter, i've avoided the outside, under my truck tinkering stuff. :-)
Replaced the speed sensor, wasn't the problem, but the old one was seperating and needed to be replaced. Works better but the driven gear teeth are looking pretty worn. Played hell trying to find one, but found one at BroncoGraveyard. That should do it.
Should be here in a couple days. I will let you know.
Alright guys, i've done ALL that....2 months ago. I changed the cable, hooked it up to my drill, all worked fine from the cable up. I changed the gear on the end of the speedo/cruise control sensor, and i even spent $30 on a new speedo/cruise control sensor unit....still no change......it jitters around pretty bad for a little while... or it drops of to 0 mph or shoots way past 85. I've done everything from the plastic gear forward. And so my thinking now, is that its the gear inside my transfer case. I've looked at my All-Data descriptions, and it looks like a real monster to get to...but at the same time, it might be a cake walk.
Same problem here. Has anyone figured how to get to the drive gear inside the t-case yet? I'm thinking that's my problem. Everything from the "driven" gear on the VSS to the gauge cluster checks out OK in mine.
