I am a fan of the barn doors also. Not it does not hit very hard, but its clean, and with the addition of a stealth box, Its a great combination. I perosnally want to keep my music inside the vehicle, so I do not need something as kick *** as Racer's. I like crisp sound. Now my civic HB I had a false floor built with two cerwin vegas Strokers 15". running 1000watts of Xtant power. that lasted for about 3 weeks, and someone liberated my stereo. Now I am nice and clean.
Its all personal preferrance. If you Like extremely loud, get some 12's and a bandpass box. that will be loud. Nice tight bass, get a JL box. its about quality. you get what you pay for. 1000watts of jenson or alphasonic is a lot different than 1000watts of orian, JL, or xtant. Just do it right, and you will be happy.
Not to interupt this little conversation, but I'm curious as to what amps you have. I hope to be replacing the spaeakers in my Ex soon and have been thinking about amp placement.
I know from experience the existing speaker wiring goes round and round and crosses the body in a "tunnel" that runs under the front seats. Did you rewire your speakers? And if so, how did you run the wiring - did you take out the seats and use existing FORD runs or did you create your own?
Yes, I rewired the front and rear door speakers with Monster cable (I unhooked the 3rd row speakers altogether) and ran the wires through the door and under the door sills and carpet to the amp under the rear bench seat.
I'm running a 5-channel amp for simplicity. It's a PPI 5540 or 5440(?), something like that. As for power I'm assuming you mean power cable. I ran #1/0 19-strand jacketed copper directly from the battery to the amp. The cable was overkill (600V and 200A rating), but I had it left over from another project. The RCA's were run from the deck straight back to the amp under the carpet (easier to do when doing the Stealthbox install since the center console is out). Somewhat of a pain to run the speaker wire through the doors, but much easier than tapping into the wiring harness.... although I never tried.
I had the stock head unit in for awhile coupled with an AudioControl LC8 (line level converter), now have an Eclipse deck. The stock unit sounded good with the LC8/amp/speakers, but I wanted Sirius and didn't want the aftermarket controller sticking out somewhere.... so a deck with Sirius was the answer. The LC8 is a great piece if you have the rear DVD and don't want to lose the factory controls.
