How secure is this device being mounted to the outside of the car door, rather than the factory style install? i think it just uses some type of adhesive right?

i would worry about them being taken off of my truck. or coming off during a wash.

also "discountfordpart" how would i be able to order these from you?

Thanks for the reply Ed. how are they programmed? a friend said i would have to cycle the key 8 times, and if my locks cycled then i can program remotes to the truck. so i tested it, and they do in fact lock then unlock. also, how do you guys ship? i live in alaska, and usually usps priority is the cheapest and fastest. i would be looking at getting the keyless entry unit, plus 2 remotes. thanks again.

Just about like your friend said,USPS is how we ship to Alaska. Instructions are included with the keypad for programing. you can order from my website.

Thanks Ed

Ford OEM Part

I added a original equipment keyless lock to my truck. No problem. You want to buy a slightly used door handle without a keypad? I was concerned that it would rattle if I took the door apart myself, so I had a body shop install it for me. Once it was installed I had Ford program it. All in all, it ended up costing about $150. My truck had the keypad combination in the literature packet.

Here is the part number from fordparts.com (I believe):
6L3Z-1522405-AB : 1 : HANDLE ASSEMBLY - DOOR - : 47.49

Hey Al, I startred to go that route yesterday, but the guy at the ford dealership told me he didnt know if the OEM door pad would plug into the " GEM module ", so before i bought the keypad door handle and the keypad i thought i would come to the site and post first to see if anyone had added the original keypad to their truck. Did your truck originally come with keyless entry or did you just add it yourself? i would much rather have the door handle keypad if possible.

Sorry, I have been away. My truck didn't originally come with the kepad. I ordered a keypad just like what it would have if it had. The didn't know for sure if it would fit, but the keypad combination was in my glove box. I went to a body shop that was literally on the same premisis as the Ford dealer I originally purchased the truck. I asked them to install it. They said they didn't know if it would work, but to give it a shot, I would pay them the same either way. The physically installed it. It didn't originally work, so I asked the dealer to flash it given the in technical service bulletin I found somewhere or another. They didn't know if they could do it, but I asked them to give it a go anyway. The weird thing is when I got the truck back, they gave me a new combination. I tried the original and it worked. I programmed my own code and it deleted the one they added. My truck was now identical to any other truck with the original OEM keypad.

As far as being complicated, it had to be a piece of cake. It was just one four prong plug that plugged right in. I was more concerned with snapping off some little piece that would make the door panel rattle later.

I hope I didn't come off as a smarta$$, I just thought it might be helpful to give all the details. I will look around for the details about the technical service bulletin, but I will not be able to post it until Wednesday.

ok sounds like a plan, details is what i needed so i could make a informed decision.

I also have the keyless entry card in my glove box... didnt really know why though, but i guess i know why now. I think that i would much rather prefer the OEM style instaead of the adhesive kind. thanks for the insight Al.

i will post how it went, let me know if you get that service bulletin as i have had to bring them to my dealer because sometimes theyre not famliar with them.

WOW,

i purchased the door handle that came with the keyless entry module and it fit directly into my door, not only that the harness was already behind the door panel so the keyless mnodule could plug into.

it took the Ford Technician all of 30 minutes to install the door handle and another 3 to reflash the computer so the truick would recognize it. I now have keyless entry pad from ford. Though my truck didnt come with it, my truck had the option from the factory; therefore allowing me to upgrade with no problem.

Thanks Al_bundy for the advice on this upgrade. it worked like a charm.

I got mine from the dealer, the doorhandle w/ keypad was about $46.95. I then paid the dealer about $50 to install it and reflash the computer and it now works like a charm!!!!

My truck already had the plug in the door that was capped off waiting to have the keyless entry pad plugged into it. The technician told me that it was cheaper for ford to use 1 wire harness for everythig rather than several different ones.
