Ok, similar problem. My friend has a 77 F150 and we can't get the lights to work from day to day. So I replaced the headlight switch because the old one was arcing. The switch worked until I installed it back into the dash. Now the turn signals don't work at all and I don't know where to start on this whole ordeal. So basically from this post alot of this is just ground problems? It seems too simple? And I don't know the first thing about turn signals. Just please enlighten me. Also what color wires do what on the 77 light switch?
Ok, at first the headlights worked then they started to flicker. The parking lamps or side lamps did not work even though we replaced the bulbs. The turn signals also worked for a while but now they do not operate. The running lights are also out on this truck but the brake lights work.
The Ford headlight system is inferior because the main power to run the headlights goes thru the switch with circuit breakers...once they heat up and weaken..the flickering lights show up.
Flickering can also be because of bad grounds.
Loose connections
Bad ground on Voltage Regulator
Floor Dimmer switch is shorting out.
Check all the connections everywhere to make sure all connections are clean & secure.
Check grounds for good contact.
If you still have a problem after that ,we'll do a step by step T/S.
Thats what I was going to suggest as well, the problems is that a lot of these trucks had/have rubber floor mats which are rust magnets and eat away at that floor switch. The best thing to do is to smear some RTV sealant or silicone caulking in the back of that switch and make it weathertight. I used heat shrink wire connectors too further the weathertight factor. Good Luck!
Thanks guys. My buddy decided to keep this truck now so i'm going to work on it with the tips you guys gave me for the next week or so. I'll let you know how it works out. Take it easy.
