There is an interesting item up for bid on eBay, item #230035198824. The seller is claiming this truck is the original Sanford and Son TV show truck. Three things seemed kind of out of whack to me. First, the listing is for a 1948 truck, the show truck is a '51. Second, there are no pictures and the bidding is starting a $75,000, yeah that is with three 0s. Third, the truck, according to the discription, is wildly modified. I would think a truck with this pedigree would be worth more in it's original condition.
Ilya reminded me that one of our own FTE members had the original truck with some very convincing documentation. I contacted lindaloumc, our member with the truck. She confirmed she still had the truck and has been showing it. I was going to contact eBay to report this fraud but I think Linda might have already beat me to it. The auction might be pulled already.
Judging from the way the rest of the ad is written, I'd guess what he's trying to say is that a 48 Ford was used on Sanford & Sons, and his truck is (was) a 48 Ford. He just doesn't know how to write. I'm not sure it's a case of fraud, just ignorance.
I agree...I think it would be worth more in its original form. Hell for that starting bid you think he could put up a picture...sounds kinda fishy to me!!
I saw that truck listed the same way earlier this year, before I joined FTE. I thought "fraud" right away because there were no pictures. If I want to sell something that valuable, I would have pictures for sure.

Pete,
That's interesting, if this is the same truck you saw then it must being offer by another person because the current seller doesn't have any previous eBay transactions.
I saw that last night and right away I said to myself it was a scam. There isn't a Bonusbuilt worth that , no matter how much we all wish! I never bid on anything without a pic.
That's the thread that Bob mentioned. I think the guy that started the thread was trying to build a replica, and the actual owner of the real truck joined in 5 years later. Notice the dates; that's got to be a new record.
Someone with u-pay access should ask the dud some questions, 48 vs 51, why no pic, how can a vehicle have so many mods and be restored, why is the sky blue.
