I have a 1990 f-150, and i was going to swap out the 5.0 with another 5.0, but the other one has a carb, what would I have to do to change to a carb motor instead of the original efi.
All you got to do is run a electric fuel pump for a carb. EFI pumps run at a higher pressure. Carb only needs about 5 to 7lbs.
Then you can trash all the computerized garbage.
I swapped out a 3.8 for an old school 302 in my '93 T-Bird but I had to cut a hole in the hood so that carb could get some fresh air. LoL
Your going to need a shorter throttle and kick down cable and you may have to run a toggle switch for your coil.
I tried powering coil off some stock wiring and relay would trip out. Toggle solved that issue.
Kick down cable on older vehicles is what make transmission go into passing gear.
On newer vehicles with AOD trans it controls the transmission's pump pressure so that it shifts right.
Do you have and AOD trans?
You may or may not get by cutting the throttle cable, depends on the linkage. I'm not familar with your trucks settup. I'm just going by what I had to do to my T-Bird.

You did something wrong there. I've had the coil on my 89 Ranger running off the factory coil hot wire now for 5 years. Distributor is a rebuilt points type fitted with a Pertronix II and fed by a Mallory Promaster points type coil.
