My wife drives a '00 Expedition with the 4.6 eng. When running the A/C the engine will bog down to a very low rpm and almost stall out, sometimes it does. When running the selftest I came up with no codes. I ran it again with the A/C on and I get a 1464 ( a/c demand out of selftest range ). Can someone tell me what this means and what needs to be done to correct this problem.
I have cleaned the throttle plate and bore, replaced the IAC solenoid, and still no help. Had to unplug the compressor so she can at least use the defrost.
That code was simply telling you that the A/C should not be on when running the self test. Don't read any further into it.
You might want to have your A/C pressures checked.. it's possible there's a compressor problem causing the engine to work harder than it should.
Also make sure you got the correctly calibrated IAC... look up your calibration code (usually on the drivers door end) and have the dealer verify the correct part number. Often aftermarket IAC's are mislabeled or 'generic' and aren't quite correct for that vehicle.
Thanks for he input. I will check the pressures for the A/C. For the IAC, will the dealership be able to tell me if the Napa number is correct? I just assumed they would only have the FoMoCo number. Thanks, Scott
4.6 in a expedition. Sometimes the thing is idling way to high. You can feel it still pulling when you are trying to stop. Other times its fine. When it acts up its like when you first crank the vehicle and its idling hihg then slowly comes down. If you throw it up in neutral when trying to make a stop it will rev way up.Only code I ever get is 1506 IAC high error. Cannot find any vacuum leaks, IAC test fine. Is there something that sends info to function the IAC that could be at fault? This thing has been trouble since my wife came home with it.
