While reversing - especially with the wheel turned as if backing out of a parking spot - I am getting a series of clunks or pops from the rear end. I did a search of the forum, TSBs, and recalls and did not find anything. I appreciate any ideas on what to inspect.
By the way, my truck is stock and equipped with the non-limited slip differential.
Ooops, I just noticed my signature line listed my old truck, which was a 2001 model. My question pertains to my 2005 F-150 SuperCab. Sorry if that deterred any responses.
I know fords been having issues with the limited slip diffs making noise, binding, and so on. Havn't heard that yet with the open diffs. Your probably just lucky. I would get it in to the dealer soon to get everything checked out, hopefully under warranty. Suspension noises can sometimes travel along the frame and what you think is the diff could be something else. Also you want to make sure nothing is comming loose and making the noise.
4DOORSR, have you had the fluid in your differential replaced? Is your axle limited slip? I had this problem when they changed the fluid in my LS axle and didn't put the right lubricant in it.
There is also a TSB that outlines this problem and basically says that you need new clutch packs and there is a new fluid for the differential. The TSB number is 06-4-4.
