I noticed this morning that anytime I get the rpm's above 3500 while I'm accelerating, the battery/charge light comes on. It then goes off as soon as I drop below 3500. Is my belt slipping or is the voltage too high or what? This is in the truck in my signature. Any help would be appreciated.
Charge light comes on at low voltage. WIth the engine running put a multimeter on the battery terminals. It should read 13.5+ volts. If it reads less than 12.5v replace the alternator.
Well, right as I pulled in my garage last night, my alternator died. The light came on and wouldn't go off. Used a voltmeter at the battery with the engine running and it showed 11.8 volts. I'm going to take it by Autozone today to let them test it. I wonder if this has anything to do with my ABS light coming on and staying on. Hmmmmm
Ok, the cheapest I can find a regulator is $40. I can get a Duralast lifetime warranty alternator from Autozone for $135. Mine has 110,000 miles on it....I'm thinking I might just get the whole thing. Autozone only lists a 130 amp alternator but Advance Auto lists a 95 amp for manuals and 130 amp for automatics. Should I get the 130 amp from Autozone or the 95 amp from Advance for about the same price? Will my wiring and stuff be adequate to handle the 130 amp alternator? Or does my truck already have a 130 amp one? Thanks for the help.
Ok, I replaced my alternator and am back to full charging now. Yippee! I was hoping that the ABS light being on would have been caused by the alternator going bad and replacing it would make the light go off. No such luck. Did I maybe fix the problem but the ABS light needs to be reset? I did leave the battery disconnected overnight but it is still on. Maybe I do have an ABS problem, huh?
