Has anyone ever tubbed a Unibody? I'm getting ready to start my project and I want to fit some big tires. I'm probably not going to alter the frame other than boxing it in. I've found a good deal on a narrowed 9" that I thing would work great.
Any advice for the best approach would be appreciated. Thanks
I just saw a 64? Unibody in either June or July edition of Street Trucks. It was tubbed. Pretty sweet truck. Had a blown 460. I have the magazine at the house, if your interested. Can scan in the article for you.
I have a 67 F100 that I just tubbed. I didnt go with "generic" tubs though. If you can find out when your local wrecking yard crushes out, go out the day before. I cut stock wells from a wrecked bed and welded them in. THIS LOOKS AWESOME!!! Everybody that sees it does a double take. I tell em its a factory option. Damn chevy guys fall for it too!! Good Luck!
Clarification: I used the other wells to widen mine. Just cut the inner side off your bed and weld the whole well from the donor onto the end of yours. It takes it all the way to the frame.
I have built a few triangulated 4 link, coil-over setups for the early ford trucks. they handle good on the street and have held up well behind a 750hp supercharged big block. E-mail me at leed@tir.com and I will scan some pics of the setup to give you some ideas. Once you get the leaf springs and wheel wells out of the way there is a lot of room for tires.
