Does it have the stock stereo system? When I put a new radio in my truck a few months ago, somehow the wires got crossed and the dash lights wouldn't come on. I replaced a fuse and purchased a $3 stereo connector to fix it. Problem solved. I don't think this would affect the brake lights but that might explain the dash lights...
The illumination wire (orange) that connects to the stereo from the truck was grounding out on some metal and did the same thing I taped it up and replaced the fuse. problem solved
which fuse is the one that controls these? I have the same problem, checked the fuses and couldnt find any that were blown. Anyone with pics? Schematic?
Check in your owners manual: there are a couple of tables listing each fuse, what it protects, and it's amperage rating. It also shows their locations.
If there are no blown fuses and the continuity across the fuses checks out good (sometimes they can be cracked but not obviously blown), then it may be an issue with the headlight switch or the wiring between the fuse block and headlight switch. There should be power at the brown wire at the headlight switch when it's in the ON position. Could be a loose connection near the switch. Are your front parking lights also not working? License plate lights?

You may want to check your pig tail on your switch. This happened to me and it turned out that a "short" somehow occured in the pigtail. Just a thought. Very, very annoying problem to have though. Good Luck.
I just experienced a similar problem after installing an aftermarket radio with Ipod and XM controls. Once I got it back together I found there were no dash illumination lights although radio lights were on, didn't even realize my tail lights were out as well until reading several posts on this site.
After review of the wiring diagrams found I had improperly installed the illumination ground wire since there was not one in the new radio connector. (only had the illumination wire - no ground) It required simply covering it and not using it.
Checked all the fuses that I thought would be relevant from the owners manual but found nothing. Ended up reading a bunch of posts and decided to pull fuses and check them one by one. Ended up finding #17 15A blown, replaced it and everything is working.
This not the first time I've found seemingly unrelated fuses affecting circuits that you wouldn't expect. It may seem tedious but this is the second time that diligently checking every fuse payed off. I figured when I miswired the illumination ground I blew the #17 fuse, listed in the manual as external lamps, but showed the first obvious symptom was dash lights not working.
The lesson is take the few minutes to check all the fuses before jumping into what may at first appear to be a much larger issue.
I have the same issue. I just installed aftermarket mirrors and when i put it back together the mirrors worked but i now have no fog lights taillights or instrument cluster lights. Brake lights and turn signals do still work. Any help appreciated!
