>The Aerostar is definitely a great minivan but unfortunately they don't make it anymore
Yea, the Aerostar was still selling over 100,000 a year, more then the Chevy S-10 when Ford axed it. Some smart move, I know of noone that ditched an Aerostar for a Windstar.
Its been a good ride with you these past few years, Tom. Always enjoyed hearing about the european perspective on automotive matters. Best wishes to you and the family.
I dont know, why ford makes no small RDW van now? I belive Aerostar-2 project has good perspectives. I know all the pluses and minuses of FWD vans, like windstar and voyadger, and I'm sure time of the aero2 will come, and it will be popular like f150....
Hi, Im new and couldnt figure out how to post so I just replied to this one. I'm having a little trouble figuring out how to time this synchro on a 97 aero 3 litre. The original was destroyed so I got a used one and tried to install by mostly guess work. I've finally found the tool and willing to start over, but I cant find any marks for #1 TDC compression. Any help would be greatly appreciated. TYVM

if u cant see TDC marks, put screw driver in #1 spark hole to find TDC, to be sure the right stroke, remove valve cover to see both the valves closed
""HOWEVER, out of curiosity, I rubbed the rust off with a scotch-brite pad,
and to my amazement there was a '0' and degree marks right at the
fifth tooth, marking TDC. It's very light, and hard to see, but it's there.""
I usually put white paint marks at "0" and "10" BTDC on the balancer ring to help me set timing using a light. Those numbers etched into the ring are very hard to see otherwise.
Another swiss guy says hello! I didn't noticed Your appearance on this Forum. Sad You give away your Aero. Was in a similar situation a couple of weeks ago, when my Voyager failed to shift in gears. But i had to decide between a Hyundai H-1 or an Aerostar. Finally bought the Aero, because i can DIY and parts are easy to find. Hyundais are prone to engine damages - just take care with Your new one, i recommend to not stress the engine after cold starts until it's warming-up.
Ouups.. did not noticed the initial post of this thread from Tomucen was written in 2006... please ignore my previous reply or, at least, remember that Hyundais are not long lasting vehicels.
Pablo hello, from the MB VITO's i know they're build in Vittoria-Gasteiz (Spain), shure a good plant and improved craftmanship. But i know from some owners and from "hear saying", that Vito's are making problems in a way that is not common for Mercedes cars. I was looking around for such a car as well but for the price you'll get only high mileage and plenty of rust. Same for VW Vans.
I for myself swear for US cars. Sometimes after a messy 12hours workday with 3hours still left to drive home, the grade of comfort is unbeatable - i feel almost at home right after boarding.
