My boss's 99 F350 rollback had the hicup. Pulled the codes and got 0340 and 0344. Got a CPS from Carquest and replaced it. No start at all. Put the old on back in and no start. Tried the new one again but left the bolt out just to see if it started and it did! Tightened the bolt-no start. Pulled the bolt to make sure it was flush in the block and it was. Put the old one back and it started. Tried the new one again-no start. Put the old one back to move the truck and give up. Seems even with the old one it would only start again if I left it sit for awhile before I tried to start it again. WHat am I missing? I can't believe there is some sort of delay that you have to wait...I do know to wait for the "wait to start" light to go out. I mean a delay other than that.
Carquest never asked about the serial number as described in my search. But should have worked at least to check it out.
A couple local people a friend knows who work on bigger trucks says they have had to replace the "run" relay in the under hood fuse box. Is this possible? If so, which relay is it as we have no owners manual with the truck.
We are down to taking the truck to the dealer as we need to use it for the show in Ocean City next week.
Oh, one artical in my search described some connectors to check, but I have no idea what they are.ICP connector, HPOP reservoir.
Lastly, we have the Bully Dog program installed on level 2. Have not restored to stock yet. Man that thing works great though. Huge difference. But the hiccup whas there before the Bully Dog programmer was used. That was the first time I found the 0340 code and cleared it and was to check and see if it came back afterwards, which it did.
I tried a carquest CPS, ONCE, never again. it made the truck run like crap to the point of causing CCT failures. Put in an OEM and she was back to new.
Wow. We have always had really good luck with electrical items from Carquest. Way better than Autozone or Advance. But that has to be the problem. I'm pretty good with electrical systems, and this seemed so simple, but this problem really threw me.
I'll try an OEM part. The local Ford dealer said they replace 2-3 a week!
Thanks for the replies.
