i noticed some broken dime sized pieces at the bottom of the dif that might have come from the side the base of the side gears but i am not sure. Ther were no metal particles or damaged teeth on any of the gears
Any advice on puting this back together would be appreciated
The spider gears that the cross pin goes through need sto be put in from opposite sides of the carrier and rotate the axle until they both end up in the center. This is much easier with two people but one can do it them selves.
Make sure the hardened washers are kept behind the spider gears or they will cause damage to the carrier in not time.
I like to clean the cross pin bolt and bolt hole so they are free of any oil and use a blue loctite to keep the bolt from backing out on you later.
As for the damaged dime shaped pieces I have no clue what to offer without seeing a pic of what you speak of.
turns out they were the tabs from the clutch packs which broke off. I have to replace those as the were causing the side gears to come in too far which was part of the reason the gears were so tight going back in.
